00:16 for attending our session on delivering

00:18 end-to-end network slice orchestration

00:20 and sla

00:22 in an oren

00:23 open-run ecosystem

00:26 as we consider operand thankfully operan

00:29 appears to be a one-way avenue but we're

00:32 still at the very early stages of

00:34 adoption

00:35 and therefore there is a lot uh to be

00:37 done by our community to make sure that

00:40 oran proves to be a success

00:43 delivering the promise of 5g

00:45 so key tenants of success obviously

00:48 include

00:50 open ecosystem here we have to work as a

00:52 community to enable portability

00:54 interoperability across all oren

00:57 components both on the net network uh

01:00 uh stack as well as on the

01:03 rig and the x apps are apps that make up

01:06 the oren architecture

01:09 new business models the efficacy of new

01:12 revenue generating

01:14 business models that are enabled by oren

01:17 is important for operators to accelerate

01:20 adoption and again as a community of

01:23 innovators vendors

01:25 customers

01:26 we need to

01:28 demonstrate the ability to offer new

01:31 levels of optimization of spectral

01:33 efficiency

01:35 the ability to

01:37 optimize energy consumption and of

01:40 course the

01:41 capability of enabling new business

01:43 models that generate revenue as well as

01:46 reduce

01:47 costs for operators both on the capex

01:50 side but predominantly on the opex side

01:53 through automation and automation is key

01:56 is key not only because of the new

01:57 complexities that

01:59 are introduced by oren we now have

02:02 essentially the radio intelligent

02:04 component

02:05 uh

02:06 functioning as an operating system of

02:08 the radio enabling the provisioning of

02:11 new applications that address everything

02:13 that i mentioned right spectral

02:14 efficiency energy consumption

02:17 new business models

02:19 uh new optimization techniques including

02:23 some type of optimization

02:25 so being able to address simplicity

02:28 life cycle management operational

02:30 simplicity visibility through

02:33 automation and control are going to be

02:36 key tenants in the success of warren

02:40 if we take a look at where we are today

02:43 with uh essentially monolithic mobile

02:45 networks up until now

02:48 and where we want to uh

02:50 to be uh to deliver the promise of 5g

02:53 um

02:54 where unlike

02:56 monolithic networks that look at all

02:58 devices all use cases all customers

03:02 as the same we need to deliver

03:05 device-specific user-specific

03:07 use-case-specific

03:09 service level agreement and quality of

03:11 service

03:12 full segmentation of and security higher

03:16 valuability in its use case

03:19 through a common infrastructure

03:22 and through the enablement of end-to-end

03:24 network slicing whereby a network slice

03:28 addresses specific use cases with strong

03:30 sla attached

03:32 to its network slice which is

03:34 essentially fully virtualized networking

03:37 including

03:38 the applications that make up the

03:40 network slice

03:41 so let's take a look at

03:44 um the key uh challenges that we face

03:49 in

03:49 not just in the world of warren but

03:52 overall in delivering the end-to-end

03:54 network slice a key

03:56 tenant tenant again

03:58 uh for delivering the promise the full

04:00 promise of 5g

04:02 first of all it's a scale

04:05 we are faced with unprecedented

04:08 requirements on delivering

04:10 scalability across immense

04:12 infrastructure that includes thousands

04:15 of access points potentially thousands

04:17 of edge clouds uh hundreds of regional

04:20 clouds and national clouds as well as uh

04:24 hyper clouds including

04:26 uh the use of public clouds

04:29 a strict sla delivered in an overlay

04:32 fashion in overlay networks right in

04:34 virtual networking uh with quality of

04:37 service guaranteed

04:39 high availability guaranteed and

04:42 everything being software driven

04:44 enabling

04:46 the provisioning of new

04:48 optimization techniques new business

04:50 models on demand

04:52 end-to-end segmentation and security are

04:55 critical especially given that we're

04:57 talking now about the

04:59 notion of multi-tenancy at the level of

05:02 virtual networking whereby

05:06 crossing

05:07 between

05:08 different

05:10 slices

05:11 is a possibility a real possibility

05:14 and we need to guarantee that each slice

05:17 is fully segmented fully secured and in

05:20 some of the critical use cases

05:22 availability can reach the six nines

05:25 some that we have not really demonstrate

05:27 that scale yet in the world of 5g

05:30 and finally of course the promise of

05:33 network slice marketplace whereby you

05:35 can order a slice or you can subscribe

05:38 to an existing slice on demand

05:40 again a new capability in mobile

05:44 networks

05:45 as we move to the full adoption of 5g so

05:48 these are the key

05:50 uh

05:52 obstacles or the key challenges i should

05:54 say many of them have been addressed by

05:57 innovative uh new solutions and let me

06:00 talk about the approach we're taking

06:02 here to address them to a network slice

06:04 from the orchestration point of view

06:06 whereby

06:08 a slice essentially can be as simple as

06:10 the use as a service chain or as complex

06:13 as a full-fledged operator and mvno and

06:16 at the bottom we have the abstraction of

06:18 the infrastructure which includes

06:20 uh the private clouds

06:22 thousands of edge clouds regional clouds

06:25 national data centers as well as the

06:28 hyperscalers the public clouds right so

06:31 as we onboard such complex use cases in

06:34 a highly distributed complex multi-cloud

06:38 multi-domain infrastructure

06:40 the again the issue of simplicity of

06:43 management life cycle management

06:45 provisioning visibility is key to the

06:49 design it's key to the requirement right

06:51 so

06:52 an operator a service provider

06:54 can onboard an nvno

06:56 and then vienno now has the requirement

06:59 of provisioning their own slices right

07:01 so we need to support that

07:03 use case

07:04 in a way that

07:06 even though the uh provisioning again

07:10 anchors at the service provider level

07:13 the management the visibility is fully

07:16 contained within the tenant within the

07:19 mvno which

07:21 introduces new complexities

07:23 to the service management and

07:25 orchestration especially as

07:28 we talk about end to end

07:32 so the tenant has

07:34 seemingly full control of provisioning

07:38 managing

07:39 the life cycle of their slices

07:42 yet the provider needs to at all times

07:45 support the sla attached to that tenant

07:49 and uh

07:51 we support again from the smo point of

07:53 view

07:54 a tenant manager

07:56 uh as well as a service provider manager

08:00 so a service provider can have multiple

08:03 tenants

08:04 operating simultaneously on one shared

08:06 infrastructure

08:10 a key part of the success for delivering

08:13 end-to-end network slides with strong

08:15 sla attached

08:17 is to design the smo around the three

08:21 semantic domains

08:23 and the three semantic domains are the

08:25 accesses the run

08:27 adopting the oren architecture the

08:29 transport and the core

08:32 so

08:33 if we look at the transport it's not

08:35 just the one transport we have transport

08:38 within the oren architecture the mid

08:40 hall for example the black hole

08:42 right so

08:43 these are three semantic domains that

08:46 have multiple incarnations in a highly

08:49 distributed infrastructure

08:51 so the end-to-end service orchestration

08:53 has to account for dynamic onboarding

08:57 provisioning such complex use cases with

09:00 multiple transport domains multiple

09:02 round domains multiple core domains

09:04 potentially across a highly distributed

09:07 multi-cloud environment that's the end

09:09 goal

09:10 and stretching the sla across these

09:14 three semantic domains

09:16 and their

09:17 multiple incarnations in a way that

09:19 consistently delivers the sla

09:22 is one of the largest

09:25 challenges that we face

09:27 so

09:28 at juniper for example

09:31 we have already enabled our transport

09:34 to support end-to-end guaranteed sla on

09:38 mult multiple tenants

09:39 and we use similar technology to enable

09:42 um

09:43 end-to-end network slicing in the mid

09:45 hall

09:47 as well as

09:48 across the core where the key

09:52 functions of the core can be either

09:54 shared or can be individually

09:58 allocated to specific tenants so they

10:00 can be private or shared and delivering

10:04 the sla across

10:05 such disparate

10:07 complex use cases in a consistent way

10:10 is

10:11 a key objective of of the design to our

10:14 following

10:16 uh going back to the orange and the need

10:18 to support the success of oren

10:21 as a community there's no question we

10:23 need to address

10:24 uh the open ecosystem to commit to

10:27 interoperability

10:28 and

10:30 to uh testing platforms that allow us to

10:33 demonstrate interoperability

10:36 uh and from

10:37 that to derive to agree upon on use

10:40 cases that address network efficiencies

10:43 network optimization

10:45 energy efficiency and new use cases that

10:49 drive revenue

10:51 as a community and that will drive the

10:54 necessary requirements that will be

10:56 reflected in the ordinance

10:57 specifications going forward again we

11:00 are well on our way to achieving that

11:02 but more effort needs to be expanded by

11:04 the community to really accelerate

11:07 both the maturity of water and the

11:09 adoption of warren

11:11 that will get us to the point where we

11:14 will have interoperable portable x-ups

11:17 and arabs running on the radio

11:19 intelligent controller that will really

11:22 open the floodgate of new business

11:25 models

11:26 new innovative ways of achieving

11:29 spectral efficiency

11:31 and addressing

11:33 kpis for mission critical use cases

11:40 if we look at uh the approach we're

11:42 taking at juniper again we are committed

11:45 to experience first networking which is

11:47 really the north star of the company

11:50 company-wide we're focusing on

11:52 uh simplicity

11:54 and visibility

11:57 that

11:58 comes through automation

12:00 so that is key in enabling reduction of

12:03 opex right taking the

12:06 complexity down to

12:09 zero thoughts if you you know if you

12:11 wish is the end goal of course it's a

12:14 long way there but we're well on our way

12:16 to delivering that in uh end-to-end

12:18 network slice registration

12:20 uh multi-cloud is very important to us

12:23 and i think it should be very important

12:25 the community because

12:27 operators as well as enterprises because

12:30 we're talking about both private and

12:32 public

12:34 5g

12:35 will

12:36 need to have the flexibility of

12:38 leveraging

12:40 the

12:41 public clouds the simplicity and the

12:45 speed at which we can enable new use

12:47 cases leveraging public clouds at the

12:50 same time

12:51 operators

12:53 will need to have the ability to

12:55 leverage or build out their own private

12:57 clouds right so

12:59 having a

13:01 smo

13:03 that supports

13:04 multi-cloud environments public and

13:06 private clouds and the delivery the

13:09 provisioning of such complex use cases

13:12 through network slicing across multi

13:14 clouds is is a is a key requirement uh

13:17 for the approach we're taking and i

13:18 believe for the approach the community

13:20 needs to take

13:21 intelligent automation

13:24 and optimization again delivered

13:26 primarily through the radio intelligence

13:28 controller

13:30 is the new opportunity that open iran

13:32 brings to the market and multi-tenancy

13:35 is absolutely a key requirement uh

13:40 multi-tenancy at a new level that has

13:42 not been

13:44 realized up until now again

13:46 that addresses regional slices addresses

13:50 uh national slices very complex use

13:53 cases all of them coexisting on one

13:56 shared infrastructure

13:58 and

14:00 that takes us to the multi-access right

14:02 network slicing

14:04 that can support use cases

14:07 that can be mission critical or simply

14:10 enhanced mobile

14:12 broadband

14:14 will need to be supported across

14:15 different access

14:17 media not just 5g but 4g wi-fi wireline

14:21 so these are very important requirements

14:24 in

14:25 delivering

14:26 simplest sim simple

14:29 seamless way of onboarding provisioning

14:32 and managing network slices in an

14:34 end-to-end fashion

14:36 and with that i will conclude the

14:38 presentation and thank you very much for
