Remote Console Overview

Remote Console establishes an SSH connection to an SRX Series Firewall directly from Juniper Security Director portal. You can securely access the SRX Series Firewall directly from the Juniper Security Director portal without switching tools, accelerating day-to-day tasks such as configuration updates, health checks, and troubleshooting. On-demand SSH access improves productivity, shortens issue resolution time, and enhances overall device management efficiency.

Access an SRX Series Firewall Using Remote Console

You can access remote console from the Inventory > Devices page.

Before you establish an SSH session to an SRX Series Firewall, ensure the following:

  • You have administrator privileges with remote console access enabled.

  • The SRX Series Firewall is onboarded to Juniper Security Director. For more information see Add Devices.

  • The management status of the SRX Series Firewall is Up.

  • Browser plug-in that interferes with SSH window is disabled.

To securely connect to an SRX Series Firewall:

  1. Click Inventory > Devices.

    The Devices page is displayed.

  2. Select a device, and click More > Remote Console.

    The remote console overlay is displayed.

  3. Execute the necessary CLI commands to apply your intended configuration changes.
    Note: Avoid modifying configurations managed by Juniper Security Director, especially security settings using the CLI. Perform these updates in Juniper Security Director to maintain consistency. Changes made through CLI might require removing and re‑importing the configuration in Juniper Security Director.
  4. Exit the SSH session once your tasks are complete. Click Close (X) to close the SSH terminal overlay.

Juniper Security Director generates an audit log each time you access the device using SSH. To view remote console audit logs, navigate to Admin > Audit Logs.
