Interface Types and Configurations

Learn about port speeds, how to configure the core system settings, and management interfaces required for the initial setup of the device.

Overview

The SRX400 firewall series include a dedicated management port. Junos OS Evolved identifies this interface as re0:mgmt-0. The firewalls include the following interfaces:

  • Two 1GbE SFP ports

  • Eight 1GbE RJ-45 ports

  • RJ-45 management port (MGMT)

  • Console port (CON) to connect with USB Type C connector.

For more information, see SRX400-Port Checker and SRX440-Port Checker.

Port Speed on SRX400, SRX440, and SRX440-2AC Firewalls

To view the transceivers, optical interfaces, and DAC cables that SRX400 firewall series support, see Hardware Compatibility Tool (HCT).

SRX400 firewall series has two SFP ports ge-0/0/0 and ge-0/0/1 and eight RJ-45 ports ge-0/0/2 through ge-0/0/9. RJ-45 ports support 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1 Gbps speeds.

Table 1: Port Speed Details and Description for SRX400 and SRX440
PIC Ports Supported Speeds
PIC 0 Two SFP ports 1 Gbps
Eight RJ-45 ports

1 Gbps

100 Mbps

10 Mbps

Use the following guidelines to set the speed:

  • Two SFP ports operate at 1 Gbps. You need not configure speed for the ports. The ports transmit at 1 Gbps when you insert the transceiver.

  • The eight RJ-45 ports operate at 1 Gbps speed. To change the speed to 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps, use set speed at the [edit interfaces interface-name] hierarchy level.

Interface Naming Conventions

PIC Interface Type Interfaces
PIC 0 SFP ge-0/0/0 – ge-0/0/1
RJ-45 ge-0/0/2 – ge-0/0/9

To configure port speed:

  1. Navigate to the [edit interfaces interface-name] hierarchy.

  2. Configure the speed:

    user@host# set speed (1 Gbps| 100 Mbps | 10 Mbps)

Autonegotiation

Autonegotiation is enabled by default and supported only on RJ-45 ports (ge-0/0/2 – ge-0/0/9). The following are the autonegotiation configurations:
