Licensing and Junos OS Upgrade

Learn about licensing and Junos OS upgrade procedures for the SRX1600, SRX4120, and SRX4300 Firewalls.

Licensing Information

Some security features and services on SRX1600, SRX4120, and SRX4300 Firewalls require software licenses. For information about licensed features, licensing tiers, and subscription options, see Software Licenses for SRX Series Firewalls.

To activate and manage licenses, follow the instructions in the Juniper Licensing User Guide. For information about license activation, deployment, monitoring, renewal, and life-cycle management (LCM), see SRX Series Firewall Licensing Lifecycle.

If you replace a device, you can reuse the existing license key without purchasing a new license.

In Multinode High Availability (MNHA) deployments, all devices in the cluster must have identical licenses installed to ensure proper feature operation and configuration synchronization.

You can onboard, configure, manage, and upgrade your firewalls using HPE Mist, HPE Networking Security Director, HPE Networking Security Director Cloud, J-Web, or the Junos OS CLI. You can also activate and manage licenses to unlock advanced features.

Upgrading Junos OS

By default, all the Juniper platforms have built-in Junos OS. When a new version of Junos OS is released that supports your platform device and you want to upgrade to the latest Junos OS version, see Junos® OS Software Installation and Upgrade Guide.

For JTAC suggested releases, and detailed firmware notes, see Junos Software Versions – Suggested Releases to Consider and Evaluate.
