Time Zone and Identity Settings

Learn to configure time zone and identity settings on the ACX7000 family of routers using Junos OS Evolved CLI. The ACX7000 family of routers includes ACX7020, ACX7024, ACX7024X, ACX7100, ACX7332, ACX7348, and ACX7509 routers.

After you have completed the initial configuration, you can configure the time zone and the identity of your ACX7000 router in the network.

Time Zone

Set the date and time on a device manually or use a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server to synchronize the date and time.

Set date and time locally:

Domain Name and DNS

Configure the domain name and Domain Name System (DNS) servers on your ACX7000 router at the set system hierarchy level. This configuration ensures hostname resolution and device identification through DNS.

Loopback Interface and Router Identity

A loopback interface (lo0) is a virtual interface commonly used for router management and router identity reference. This interface also acts as a source address for generated packets. A router identifier (Router ID) is a unique identifier in a routing domain used by routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and MPLS to identify a specific node in the network.

Configure a loopback interface (lo0.0) with a static IP and set that same IP as the router-id at the [edit routing-options] to ensure stability.

Configure loopback interface (lo0):

Configure router identity:

Note: If a router identifier is not explicitly configured, Junos OS Evolved picks the highest IP address of any active interface in the router.
