VPN Design and Modeling Using the VPN Module

Besides the ability to import VPNs via network configuration import, the VPN Module enables the network planner to construct and model a VPN from scratch, and to modify or add to existing VPNs.

The procedures below describes how to add VPNs and modify existing VPNs.

To Add a VPN:

  1. Select Network > Services > VPN from the menu bar.
  2. Click Add.

The VPN Module's Add VPN window appears.

  3. Configure the fields as needed.

You can add different types of VPNs, such as Layer 3, VPLS (both BGP and LDP flavors), Layer 2 Kompella, Layer 2 Martini, L3 Hub and spoke, and Layer 2 CCC. Additionally, you may create inter-AS VPNs and hub-and-spoke VPNs.

To modify an existing VPN:

  1. From the main menu, select Network > Services > VPN.

  2. From the IP VPN window, select a particular VPN and click Modify.

You can modify the following VPN settings:

  • VPN parameters such as VPN type, name, export or import route targets.

  • VPN topology by adding or removing network elements.

  • Node and Link assignments, that is, edit the properties of nodes or links that are configured to support the VPN.

  • VPN protocols used and their related settings.
