Migrate Data from Security Director Insights 23.1R1 to 24.1R1

You can migrate the following data from Security Director Insights Release 23.1R1 to Security Director Insights Release 24.1R1:

  • Log collector

  • Security Director Insights configurations (parsers, sources, rules, threat intelligence, ServiceNow, and mitigation)

Any configuration that you add in Security Director Insights Release 24.1R1 will be replaced with Security Director Insights Release 23.1R1 configurations after the migration.

Before You Begin

  • Both Security Director Insights Release 23.1R1 and Security Director Insights Release 24.1R1 must be active at the same time. The new VM will have the same IP address as that of the old VM. Later you must change the IP address of 23.1R1.

  • Install Security Director Insights Release 23.1 hot patch V3 on the 23.1R1 system from the Software Download site. You must download the hot patch and upgrade. This provides background scripts and processes for you to connect and retrieve data from the Security Director Insights 23.1R1 node. See Upgrade Security Director Insights

  • Install Security Director Insights Release 24.1R1 and ensure that the node is up. See Deploy and Configure Security Director Insights

To migrate the data from Security Director Insights Release 23.1R1 to Security Director Insights Release 24.1R1:
  1. Log in to the admin CLI.
  2. Switch to the applications mode.
  3. Run the set data-migration config <23.1nodeIP> command and enter the password when prompted.
  4. Run the set data-migration start command. The amount of data to be migrated is displayed with a prompt Yes or No. Enter Yes.
  5. View the progress status using the show data-migration status command.
  6. Change the configurations using the set data-migration reset command. This command purges the existing configuration.

Data migration is setup to recover from network failures. However, if the Security Director Insights Release 24.1R1 node loses power during migration, you will have to set up a new node and perform the data migration steps again.
