Assign Switches to a Site

Use the instructions in this topic to assign switches to a site.

When onboarding a switch to Mist, you can assign it to an appropriate site. This ensures that the switch automatically inherits the configuration from the template associated with that site.

If the switch was not assigned to a site during onboarding, you can easily do so later from the Inventory page. You can also reassign a switch to a different site if needed.

To assign a switch to a site:

  1. Click Organization > Admin > Inventory.
  2. Select the switch that needs to be assigned to a site.
  3. From the More menu, click Assign to Site.
  4. The Assign Switches page appears.
  5. Select the site to be assigned from the Assign 1 selected Switch to site drop-down list.
  6. (This step is applicable only when the switch is already assigned to a site and you want to reassign it to another site) Choose one of the following device configuration options:
    • Retain configuration—This option retains the existing configuration on the switch (if it is managed by Mist).

    • Do not retain configuration—This option resets the configuration on the switch to default values while retaining the hostname (if it is managed by Mist).

  7. Click Assign to Site.
