Solution Benefits

The 3-Stage Fabric with Apstra Data Center Director is designed to meet the needs of most of HPE Juniper Networking customers. It has been extensively tested by HPE Juniper Networking, and is deployed by customers across the globe. Advanced testing by HPE Juniper Networking combined with widespread adoption simplifies troubleshooting and shortens the support cycle, leading to a more stable data center fabric, reducing operational costs.

This validated design follows the existing 3-Stage EVPN/VXLAN Fabric with Apstra Data Center Director—Juniper Validated Design (validated design) which covers the IPV4 fabric solution. In this validated design the IPv6 underlay and overlay solution and features are covered along with Apstra Data Center Director implementation. The main drivers for IPv6 adoption are:

  • Exponential growth of IoT devices and AI workloads, which demands IPv6’s massive scalability.
  • Government and public-sector mandates for the use of IPv6 in their networks.
  • Major cloud provider support (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for IPv6 natively to meet scalability demands.

With its 128-bit addressing scheme, IPv6 offers massive scalability and incorporates native IPsec support, enabling secure and encrypted networking by design. Using IPv6 link-local addressing in the fabric reduces operational overhead, eliminates the need to manage global IPv4 addresses on links, and prevents address exhaustion. However for this validated design Apstra Data Center Director acts as an Intent-Based Networking (IBN) platform that automates IP Address Management (IPAM) and streamlines BGP neighbor discovery and configuration as part of its data center fabric management.

The solution also validates the standard Junos OS data center features that are listed in Validated Functionality that lists all the standard Junos OS data center features that are deployed using Apstra Data Center Director.

HPE Apstra Data Center Director

HPE Juniper Networking Validated Designs in the data center start with the Apstra Data Center Director software, a multi-vendor, intent-based networking system (IBNS) that provides closed-loop automation and assurance. Apstra Data Center Director translates vendor-agnostic business intent and technical objectives to essential policy and device-specific configurations. The system also validates user intent, as part of the initial deployment and continuously thereafter, to ensure that the network state does not deviate from the intended state. Any anomaly or deviation can be flagged, and remediation actions can be taken directly from Apstra Data Center Director.

Following are the benefits of Apstra Data Center Director:

  • Intent-based networking—Apstra Data Center Director automates configuration creation to realize the intent, deploys the configuration to appropriate devices, and continuously validates the operating state against intended state.
  • Network Automation—Apstra Data Center Director is a multi-vendor network automation platform that is continuously updated to work with the latest hardware and is extensively tested using modern DevOps practices.
  • Recoverability—The Built-in rollback capability of Apstra Data Center Director allows to quickly restore the system to a known-working configuration if needed.
  • Day 2+ Management—Apstra Data Center Director’s rich data analysis capabilities, including Flow Data, reduce Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR).
  • Simplicity—Apstra Data Center Director simplifies network deployment and management. As an example, using Apstra to implement a Data Center Interconnection (DCI), reduces complexity and makes it easy to unify multiple data centers, while isolating failure domains for high availability and resilience.
