Hostname, Timezone, and Identity Settings

After you have completed the initial configuration, configure the hostname, time zone, and the identity of SRX400 firewall series in the network.

Configure the Hostname

The hostname is the name that identifies the device on the network. A hostname is easier to remember than an IP address.

To configure:

For example:

When you commit the configuration after set system host-name srx400-node1, it sets the unique hostname as srx400-node1 for the SRX400 firewall, visible in CLI prompts and logs.

Configure the Time Zone

To synchronize the date and time on SRX400 firewall, you can directly set the time zone under the [edit system] hierarchy or use NTP for time synchronization.

  • Set the timezone option under system services ntp.

    Example for UTC:

  • Set the date and time from a configured NTP server.

  • Set the date and time locally.

Domain Name and DNS

The SRX400 firewall series supports standard Domain Name System (DNS) configurations including proxy, dynamic DNS (DDNS), client, server, and advanced features such as DNS snooping and caching.

Configure the domain name and DNS servers on your SRX400 firewall series at the system hierarchy level. This configuration allows hostname resolution and full identity through DNS.

Configure DNS proxy and resolver under system services hierarchy for name resolution. Use J-Web or CLI to configure the primary and the secondary DNS servers (for example, IPv4 addresses like 8.8.8.8).

For example:
