Automatic Shutdown of Empty Ports

This feature optimizes power usage on switches by automatically disabling SerDes (serializer/deserializer) on ports without transceivers. SerDes is a port hardware component that manages high-speed serial data transmission.

By default, the system powers on all ports to ensure immediate availability; however, unused (empty) ports continue to consume power. To conserve energy, the system monitors every port and disables SerDes if it does not detect a transceiver. When you insert a transceiver, the system instantly reactivates the port without impacting active ports or network performance. This process requires no manual configuration, which enables energy savings through efficient, nondisruptive power management
