Release a Device

Use this procedure to release a device from the management of Routing Director.

Release a device from Routing Director management when it’s no longer needed or when you decommission it.

To release a device that’s part of a network implementation plan:

  1. Edit the Network Implementation Plan, and on the Add Device tab of the Edit Network Implementation page (Inventory > Device Onboarding > Network Implementation Plan), delete the device.

  2. Navigate to Network Inventory > Inventory, select the device, and click Release device-type.

To release a device that isn’t part of a network implementation plan, use the Release device-type option. The Release device-type option deletes the outbound SSH command configured on the device, which disconnects the device from Routing Director. Other configurations on the device aren’t affected.

To use the Release device-type option:
  1. Navigate to Inventory > Network Inventory.

    The Inventory page appears.

  2. Select the device (under the appropriate tab) and click Release device-type.

The Confirm Device Release page appears.

  3. On the Confirm Device Release page, do one of the following:
    • If the device isn't part of any service, click Confirm to release the device.

    • If the device is part of a service (for example, L3VPN), either:
      • Manually remove the service configuration from the device, and then release the device.

      • Click Force Delete to release the device forcefully.

The device is disconnected from Routing Director.
