About the Routing Status Tab

To access this tab, click Observability > Routing > Route Explorer > Routing Status.

Use this tab to view details of all routing prefixes in the RIB and BGP routes collected in the RIB. You can view this information only when BGP state and RIB monitoring is enabled when you create a device profile. For more information, see Add a Device Profile. The Routing Status tab consists of the Routing Status > Prefixes tab and Routing Status > Routes tabs.

About the Prefixes Tab

To access this tab, click Observability > Routing > Route Explorer > Routing Status > Prefixes.

You can view details of all routing prefixes in the RIB, and the corresponding BGP speakers in the network on this tab.

See Tasks You Can Perform for more information about the tasks that you can perform from this tab.

Fields Descriptions

Table 1 lists the fields on the Routing Status > Prefixes tab.

Table 1: Fields on the Routing Status > Prefixes Tab
Field Description

Prefix Address

The network prefix address.

Prefix Length

The length of the prefix.

Device Count

The total number of RIB-monitored devices where this prefix is installed as an active route.

AF Type

The address family (AF) type associated with the prefix.

The AF types are IPv4-Unicast and IPv6-Unicast.

About the Routes Tab

To access this tab, click Observability > Route Explorer > Routing Status > Routes.

You can view the routes in the loc-RIBs of those BGP speakers for which BGP RIB monitoring is enabled, along with additional route details.

See Tasks You Can Perform for more information about the tasks that you can perform from this tab.

Field Descriptions

Table 2 lists the fields on the Routing Status > Routes tab.

Table 2: Fields on the Routing Status > Routes Tab
Field Description

Hostname

The host name of the device.

Prefix Address

The network prefix address associated with the route.

Prefix Length

The subnet mask length of the prefix.

AS Path

The sequence of Autonomous Systems that the route has passed through.

Next Hop

The IP address of the next router to reach the destination prefix.

Med

The Multi Exit Discriminator of the BGP route.

The attribute that suggests a preferred entry point into an AS where multiple routes exist.

Local Pref

The local Preference attribute of the BGP route.

The attribute indicates the preferred outbound path within an AS.

Community

The community attribute of the BGP route.

The community attributes value associated with the route.

RIB-view

The RIB in which the route is present. Currently, the RIB-View is always loc-RIB, as it is the only RIB supported.

Tasks You Can Perform

This section provides information on the tasks that you can perform from the Routing Status > Prefixes tab and Routing Status > Routes tabs.

Common tasks

In the time series graph above the Routing Status table, you can view a graphical representation of:

  • The total count of all IPv4 or IPv6 routes of all RIB-monitored devices in the network.

    You can also:

    • Select the option buttons provided in the top-center of the graph to switch between IPv4 (default) and IPv6 prefixes.

    • Click the Linear or Log buttons in the top-right corner of the graph to switch between a linear or log graphical view.

    • View this information for a predefined (2h, 4h, 6h, 8h, 10h, 12h) or for a custom time period.

    • Hover over any point on the graph to view the state of the prefix at that point.

Tasks you can perform from the Routing Status > Prefixes table

From the Routing Status > Prefixes table, you can:

  • View details of all prefixes available.

  • Sort, resize, or re-arrange columns in a table (grid).

  • Show or hide columns in the table or reset page preferences, using the vertical ellipsis menu.

  • Filter the data displayed in the table—Click the filter icon (funnel) and select whether you want to show or hide advanced filters. You can then add or remove filter criteria, save criteria as a filter, apply or clear filters, and so on. The filtered results are displayed on the same page.

You can filter by prefix length, prefix address, and AF type data.

  • Click the Download button to download all device routing information as a CSV file.

  • Click the prefix hyperlink to view a graph of the events (such as routes added and routes deleted) related to that prefix for the past 12 hours, on the Routing Updates tab.

The Routing Updates table is updated with details of the prefix that you selected.

Tasks you can perform from the Routing Status > Routes table

From the Routing Status > Routes tab, you can:

  • View details of routes in the RIBs of various monitored devices.

You can filter by host name, prefix-address, prefix-length and next hop.
