Routing Observability Overview
The Routing Observability feature in Routing Director allows you to actively monitor the overall routing health of your network in real time. Routing Director provides a Route Explorer dashboard that you can use to monitor routing health. However, to be able to use this feature, you must:
-
Configure a VIP (by using Deployment Shell) which is used by external network devices as BMP station IP address to establish the BMP session. See Deploy the Cluster.
-
Enable routing protocol analytics, and configure BGP data collection when you add a device profile. See Add a Device Profile.
Route Explorer
The Route Explorer dashboard allows you to monitor all routing prefixes in the network. You can track historical route events and route attribute details, enabling identification and troubleshooting of reachability issues and route fluctuations. You can also monitor, in real time, BGP peers and routing information base (RIB) statistics, allowing you to detect and resolve routing control plane issues. You can use the Route Explorer dashboard to consistently monitor and analyze peer information and understand their effect on the networks routing performance. See About the Route Explorer Page.
Benefits
-
Monitor the overall routing health of your network by using the Route Explorer dashboard, which presents real-time routing data
-
Identify routing issues and take corrective actions wherever necessary
Route Topology
The Route Topology page provides a visual, interactive representation of routing paths across your network. The topology map displays all devices, links, and routing relationships, which enables you to understand the traffic flows and route interconnections. You can use the Route Topology page to monitor live topology changes, analyze routing behavior, and identify routing anomalies that affect network performance.
Benefits
-
View the end-to-end routing topology in an interactive map that updates in real time.
-
Monitor live changes in your network, including device additions, link state updates, and route shifts.
-
Understand the geographic or logical positions of devices for better visual clarity.
-
Identify and investigate anomalies in routing paths to quickly isolate and resolve issues.
