About the Monitor Instance-Name Page

This topic provides information about how you can monitor alerts and key performance indicators (KPIs) that trigger alerts from the About the Monitor Instance-Name page.

To access this page, click Observability > Health > Custom KPI Collection > Rule Instantiations > Instance-Name. Users with the Super User, Network Admin, or Observer roles can use this page.

Routing Director enables you to upload custom rules that define how KPIs for various device components are collected. You can apply a custom rule on devices by creating a rule instance. After you deploy a rule instance, alerts are generated when a KPI crosses the threshold limit defined in the custom rules file.

  • You can view these alerts on the Alerts tab of the About the Monitor Rule-Instance page. These alerts highlight issues that might need attention and how these issues can affect the network.

  • You can view more information about changes in KPIs that trigger these alerts on the KPI tab of the About the Monitor Rule-Instance page.

Alerts Tab

To access this tab, click Observability > Health > Custom KPI Collection > Rule Instantiations > Instance-Name > Monitor Instance-Name. The Alerts tab is displayed by default.

Routing Director generates alerts to notify you of anomalies in the KPIs in your network. This tab displays all alerts generated for a rule instance.

Tasks You Can Perform

You can perform the following tasks from this tab:

  • In the widgets, you can view:

    • Total Alerts—Displays the total number of alerts generated for all the KPIs associated with a device in the rule instance. The total number includes alerts that are currently open and are addressed (cleared).

    • Critical Alerts—Displays the number of active critical alerts that need immediate attention.

    • Minor Alerts—Displays the number of active minor alerts that are generated. They are warnings that needs to be fixed but don't require immediate attention.

  • View a graphical representation of all active alerts.

    On the graph, you can:

    • View alerts generated for the past 30 minutes, by default.

    • View the total number of active alerts on the y-axis, and the time the alerts occurred on the x-axis.

    • View alerts for a week, a day, 3 hours, 1 hour, 30 minutes (default), or a custom time period.

  • In the Alerts table, you can:

    • View a device-wise list of all alerts generated for various KPIs associated with the rule instance.

    • View details of an alert—Select an alert and click More > Detail or click the Details icon on the left of the device name to view more information about the alert. The Alert Details pane appears displaying the details of the alert.

    • Sort, resize, or re-arrange columns in a table (grid).

Fields Descriptions

Table 1 describes the fields in the Alerts table.

Table 1: Fields in the Alerts Table
Field Description

Alert ID

The UUID of the generated alert.

Device

Name of the device.

Rule Instance ID

The UUID of the rule instance.

Severity

Severity level of the alert. The levels are:

  • Critical—Indicates that the issue needs immediate attention.

  • Minor—Indicates that the issue is being monitored and currently there is no impact on the functioning of the network or network devices. They are warnings that needs to be fixed but don't require immediate attention.

Raised Time

Date and time that the alert was generated.

Topic

The name of the string used to logically group related rules.

Rule

The custom rule for which the alert is triggered.

Type

The KPIs associated with the custom rule that triggered the alert.

Site

Site in which the device (for which the alert was raised) is located.

Status

The current status of the alert. The statuses are:

  • Open—An active alert that has not be addressed.

  • Cleared—The alert is addressed and is no longer active.

KPI Tab

To access this tab, click Observability > Health > Custom KPI Collection > Rule Instantiations > Instance-Name > Monitor Instance-Name > KPI (tab).

Routing Director generates alerts based on the anomalies in the KPIs in your network. You can view a graphical representation of the performance, and alerts generated for all KPIs associated with a device on this page. You can set triggers and threshold limits for individual KPIs when you define rule parameters. You configure these rule parameters when you define custom rules. To define a custom rule based on your requirements, we recommend that you contact Juniper Networks Professional Services.

Tasks You Can Perform

You can perform the following tasks from this page:

  • View graphical representation of the performance, and alerts generated for all KPIs associated with a device. To do this information:

    1. Select a device from the Device Selection drop-down list.

    2. Select a rule from the Rule Selection drop-down list.

The rule parameters (triggers, threshold limits) associated with the selected rule and device are displayed in accordions on the tab. Click each accordion to view a graph of the performance, and alerts associated with each rule parameter. For more information, see .

Note: The name of the accordion is the name of the rule parameters that you set when you defined the custom rule.
  • You can view KPI information for a week, a day, 3 hours, 1 hour, 30 minutes (default), or a custom time period.

  • View the time stamp of the next refresh (in DD/MM/YYYY hh:mm:ss AM/PM format) in the top-right corner of the tab. For Example: 07/12/2024 12:42:43 PM. The graph auto-refreshes at an interval depending on the time range for which the information is displayed. See Table 2 for more information.

  • Update the details on the tab by clicking the refresh icon.

Time Range Auto-Refreshed
Weekly Every 16.8 hours
