About the Routing Status Tab

To access this tab, navigate to Observability > Routing > Route Explorer > Routing Status.

Use this tab to view details of all routing prefixes in the routing information base (RIB) and BGP speakers in the network. You can view this information only when BGP state and RIB monitoring is enabled when you create a device profile. For more information, see Add a Device Profile. The Routing Status tab consists of the Routing Status > Prefixes and Routing Status > Devices tabs.

About the Prefixes Tab

To access this tab, click Observability > Routing > Route Explorer > Routing Status > Prefixes.

You can view details of all routing prefixes in the RIB, and the corresponding BGP speakers in the network on this tab.

See Tasks You Can Perform for more information about the tasks that you can perform from this tab.

Fields Descriptions

Table 1 lists the fields on the Routing Status > Prefixes tab.

Table 1: Fields on the Routing Status > Prefixes Tab
Field Description

Prefix Address

Network prefix address.

Prefix Length

Length of the prefix.

Device Count

Total number of RIB-monitored devices where this prefix is installed as an active route.

AF Type

Address family (AF) type associated with the prefix.

The AF types are IPv4-Unicast and IPv6-Unicast.

About the Devices Tab

To access this tab, navigate to Observability > Routing > Route Explorer > Routing Status > Devices.

You can view details of all BGP speakers in the network for which BGP state and/or RIB monitoring is enabled. You can also view route add and delete events, and states of all BGP speakers.

See Tasks You Can Perform for more information about the tasks that you can perform from this tab.

Field Descriptions

Table 2 lists the fields on the Routing Status > Devices tab.

Table 2: Fields on the Routing Status > Devices Tab
Field Description

Hostname

Hostname of the device

Current Peers

Total number of BGP peers on the device.

Current Active Routes

Total number of active local routing information base (loc-RIB) routes on the device.

Monitoring

Type of BGP monitoring used.

The types are:

  • State—BMP peer messages

  • RIB—BMP RIB messages

Status

Current status of the device's BMP session.

Site

Site (geographical location) where the device is installed.

Tasks You Can Perform

This section provides information on the tasks that you can perform from the Routing Status > Prefixes and Routing Status > Devices tabs.

Common tasks

In the time series graph above the Routing Status table, you can view a graphical representation of the total count of all IPv4 or IPv6 routes of all RIB-monitored devices in the network. You can also:

  • Select the option buttons provided in the top-center of the graph to switch between IPv4 (default) and IPv6 prefixes.

  • Click the Linear or Log buttons in the top-right corner of the graph to switch between a linear or log graphical view.

  • View this information for a predefined (2h, 4h, 6h, 8h, 10h, 12h) or a custom time period.

  • Hover over any point on the graph to view the state of the prefix at that point.

Tasks you can perform from the Routing Status > Prefixes table

From the Prefixes table, you can:

  • View details of all prefixes available.

  • Sort, resize, or re-arrange columns in a table (grid).

  • Show or hide columns in the table or reset page preferences, using the vertical ellipsis menu.

  • Filter the data displayed in the table—Click the filter icon (funnel) and select whether you want to show or hide advanced filters. You can then add or remove filter criteria, save criteria as a filter, apply or clear filters, and so on. The filtered results are displayed on the same page.

You can filter by prefix length, prefix address, and AF type data.

  • Click Download to download all device routing information as a CSV file.

  • Click the prefix hyperlink to view a graph of the events (such as routes added and routes deleted) related to that prefix for the past 12 hours, on the Routing Updates tab.

The Routing Updates table is updated with details of the prefix that you selected.

Tasks you can perform from the Routing Status > Devices table

From the Devices table, you can:

  • View details and BGP Monitoring Protocol (BMP) status of all devices available.

You can filter by host name, status, and site data.

  • Click the host name hyperlink to view a graph of the events (such as routes added and routes deleted) related to that device for the past 12 hours, on the Routing Updates tab.

The Routing Updates table is updated with details of the device that you selected.
