Release a Device

Use this procedure to release a device from the management for Paragon Automation.

A device should be released from the management of Paragon Automation if the device is no longer needed or when it is being decommissioned.

To release a device that is part of a network implementation plan, delete the device from the Network Implementation Plan and then use the Release device-type option present on the Inventory page (Network Inventory > Inventory).

To delete a device from a network implementation plan, edit the network implementation plan and delete the device from the Add Device tab of the Edit Network Implementation page (Inventory > Device Onboarding > Network Implementation Plan). See Edit a Network Implementation Plan.

When you remove a device from the network implementation plan, all the configurations that were committed on the device through the plan are deleted, but the outbound SSH connection is retained.

Use the Release device-type option on the Inventory page to delete the outbound SSH connection from the device. Without the outbound SSH connection, the device is disconnected from Paragon Automation.

To release a device that is not part of a network implementation plan, use the Release device-type option. The Release device-type option deletes the outbound SSH command configured on the device disconnecting the device from Paragon Automation. Other configurations on the device are not affected.

To use the Release device-type option:
  1. Navigate to Inventory > Network Inventory.

    The Inventory page appears.

  2. Select the device (under the appropriate tab) and click Release device-type.

The Confirm Device Release page appears.

  3. Do one of the following:
    • If the device is not actively part of any services, click Confirm to release the device.

    • If the device is actively a part of any service such as L3VPN, the list of such services is displayed. In such instances, you can either:
      • Manually remove the service configuration from the device and then release the device.

      • Click Force Delete to release the device forcefully.

The device is disconnected from Paragon Automation.
