Forecast Power Cost and GHG Emission

The sustainability features in DC Assurance enable you to forecast power requirement, power cost, and greenhouse gas emission. To measure and forecast power cost, you need to enter the power cost value based on your geographical region, rates offered by your power service provider, and your organization's contribution to green energy. For Carbon intensity data, you need to enter the emission value based on the source of power, regional emission standards, and your organization's emission goals.

Compliance with SBTi Targets

Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a climate action organization that enables organizations to make their contribution in combating the climate crisis. SBTi targets are greenhouse gas emission reduction goals set by the organizations in line with Paris agreement on climate change.

SBTi target is a comprehensive score that includes power consumption and carbon emission contributed by the entire infrastructure in your organization, which includes networking devices, servers, power generation systems, cooling systems, and so on. DC Assurance focuses on providing sustainability data for network devices only, thereby enabling you to comply with the power consumption targets and carbon emission standards for those devices. This data serves as an input for organization-level SBTi reports.

Figure 1 shows the annual energy consumption, GHG emission, and power cost metrics. Hover over any of these values to view current actual value and the forecasted value for that metric.

Power Consumption Forecast

DC Assurance collects power consumption data from the devices in the network and provides projections for power consumption and power cost based on past consumption data. The forecasted data is useful for budgeting power cost. You can specify the power cost value based on the source of power, power tariff rates in your geographical region, and your organization's contribution to green energy.

You can compare the estimated power consumption and the actual power consumed. If the actual power consumed exceeds the estimate, you can investigate the devices or components that are causing spikes in power consumption, and then perform remedial measures.

Greenhouse Gas Emission Forecast

DC Assurance forecasts for site-level and organization-level GHG emission based on the emission standards in your region and the power consumed by the devices in the network. You can specify a value based on the source of power and the emission standards in your geographical region. The total emission value correlates with the total power consumed by the devices in the network.
