KVM Lightweight Collector (kLWC) Overview

The KVM Lightweight Collector (kLWC) is a KVM-based virtual solution for collecting data from Junos devices for Juniper Support Insights (JSI). kLWC can serve as a replacement for the physical Lightweight Collector appliance and as an alternative to the virtual LWC (vLWC).

The Lightweight Collector (LWC) is a data collection component installed on customer premises as part of the Juniper Support Insights (JSI) solution.

Key characteristics include:

  • Secure data handling—Data is collected and encrypted locally before transmission
  • No persistent storage—Data is stored only transiently in volatile memory
  • Cloud-based retention—No data is permanently stored on the collector. All collected data resides in the Juniper Enterprise Data Platform (EDP)

LWC provides a secure method for collecting operational data from Junos devices by acting as a local aggregation and encryption point.

Figure 1 illustrates the data collection process.

kLWC brings the full capabilities of the LWC into a virtualized environment enabling you to leverage your existing KVM infrastructure while freeing up physical rack space in your data center. You can seamlessly integrate kLWC into your KVM-based deployments without requiring dedicated hardware.

kLWC is deployed using the kLWC manager, a self-contained shell script package that handles all KVM-related interactions, bundles the VM image and required supporting files, and simplifies the deployment process into a single executable.

Users familiar with deploying VMs in KVM environments can quickly and easily deploy kLWC using the kLWC manager.
