Identifying Secure Product Delivery

There are several mechanisms implemented in the delivery process to ensure that a customer receives an authentic product which has not been tampered with. Verifying the authenticity of the device at receipt is a prerequisite for using the product in an evaluated configuration.

The customer shall perform the following checks upon receipt of a device to verify that an authentic device has been received, and no tampering of the device has occurred during the delivery.

  1. Shipping label—Ensure that the shipping label correctly identifies the customer name, the customer address, and the device being ordered.

  2. Outside packaging—Inspect the outside shipping box and tape. Ensure that the shipping tape has not been cut or otherwise compromised. Ensure that the box has not been cut or damaged to allow access to the device.

  3. Inside packaging—Inspect the plastic bag and the seal. Ensure that the bag has not been torn, cut, removed, or otherwise compromised. Ensure that the seal remains intact.

If the customer identifies any problem during the inspection, he or she should immediately contact the supplier. The customer shall provide the order number, tracking number, and a description of the identified problem to the supplier. The supplier shall address the problem and keep the customer informed of the progress.

Additionally, there are several checks that should be performed to ensure that the customer has received a shipment sent by Juniper Networks instead of a different company masquerading as Juniper Networks.

The customer should perform the following checks upon receipt of a device to verify the authenticity of the device:

  1. Verify that the device was ordered using a purchase order. Juniper Networks devices are never shipped without a purchase order.

  2. When a device is shipped, a shipment notification is sent to the e-mail address provided by the customer when the order is taken. Verify that this e-mail notification was received. Verify that the e-mail contains the following information:

    1. Purchase order number

    2. Juniper Networks order number used to track the shipment

    3. Carrier tracking number used to track the shipment

    4. List of items shipped, including their serial numbers

    5. Address and contacts of both the supplier and the customer

    6. Verify that the shipment was initiated by Juniper Networks. To verify that a shipment was initiated by Juniper Networks, you should perform the following tasks:

      1. Compare the carrier tracking number of the Juniper Networks order number listed in the Juniper Networks shipping notification with the tracking number on the package received.

      2. Log on to the Juniper Networks online customer support portal at https://support.juniper.net/support to view the order status. Compare the carrier tracking number or the Juniper Networks order number listed in the Juniper Networks shipment notification with the tracking number on the package received.
