Installing Software on NFX Network Services Platforms

The administrator can use this procedure to upgrade Junos OS on an NFX Network Services Platform.

Note: Junos OS is delivered in signed packages with manifests which validate the immutability of the contents. There is also a signature of the manifest that can be validated with public keys that are packaged. During install of the software packages, Junos OS validates the signature and the hashes of the contents present in the manifest. If the signature is found to be invalid, the installation process fails. Software update performed in FIPS mode is similar to that in non-FIPS mode for the functionalities available on the device. Some functionalities are impacted only during reboot.

To install software upgrades on an NFX device with a single Routing Engine:

  1. Download the software package as described in Downloading Software Packages from Juniper Networks.
  2. If the administrator have not already done so, connect to the console port on the NFX device from the management device, and log in to the CLI. (For instructions, see Initial Configuration .)
  3. Back up the current software configuration to a second storage option.
  4. Copy the software package to the NFX device. We recommend to use SFTP to copy the file to the /var/public/ directory.
  5. Install the new package on the NFX device:

Replace package with the path to the software package placed on the NFX device. Eg: /var/public/package.tgz.

  6. Reboot the device to load the installation and start the new software:
  7. After the reboot has completed, log in and use the show version command to verify.
  8. (Optional) The administrator can install the software on NFX devices using USB. If the USB installation is done, zeroization is not required.
