New and Changed Features
We have introduced the following new feature in APM 3.5.0.
-
Backup IPv4 partition support—You can configure a backup partition in Address Pool Manager. As a centralized prefix resource, APM can source pool prefixes for multiple regions or datacenters of BNGs. In the event of a failure of a region, subscriber traffic is redirected to another region that is a designated backup region. The designated backup region’s BNGs or BNG User Planes would see an increase in subscriber loads as would the assigned APM partitions that were sized for only that region. The sudden influx of backup subscribers would likely deplete the region’s partition, resulting in login failures. You can configure a backup partition to alleviate this problem.
As part of the process to support backup partitions, APM treats an origin partition with a configured backup partition as an extended origin partition. APM attempts apportionment in the backup partition once the origin partition is depleted. (See APM Backup Partitions.)
