Power Off an ORv3-Compliant QFX5250 Switch

Follow these steps to power off an ORv3-compliant QFX5250 switch.

Before you power off an ORv3-compliant QFX5250 switch:

  • Ensure that you have taken the necessary precautions to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage. See Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge Damage.

  • Ensure that you do not need to forward traffic through the switch.

Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available to power off the switch:

  • An ESD grounding strap

  • An external management device such as a PC

  • An RJ-45-to-DB-9 rollover cable to connect the external management device to the console port

To power off a QFX5250 switch:

  1. Connect to the switch using one of the following methods:
  2. Shut down Junos OS Evolved from the external management device.

For a QFX5250 switch, issue the request system power-off operational mode CLI command. This command shuts down the switch gracefully and preserves system state information. A message appears on the console, confirming that the operating system has halted. You can see the following output:

    CAUTION:

Wait at least 60 seconds after first seeing the final message before proceeding with the following instructions to power off the switch.

  3. Wrap and fasten one end of the ESD wrist strap around your bare wrist, and connect the other end of the strap to a site ESD point or to the ESD point on the device.
  4. Disconnect DC power to the switch by gently pulling out the switch from the ORv3 rack. This disconnects the busbar on ORv3 rack from the IT Gear Input Connector on the ORv3-compliant QFX5250 switch.
  5. Remove the switch from the rack.
