Unpacking MX5, MX10, MX40, and MX80 Routers
The router is shipped in a cardboard carton and secured with foam packing material. The carton also contains an accessory box and quick start instructions.
The router is maximally protected inside the shipping carton. Do not unpack it until you are ready to begin installation.
To unpack the router:
- Move the shipping carton to a staging area as close to the installation site as possible, but where you have enough room to remove the router.
- Position the carton so that the arrows are pointing up.
- Open the top flaps on the shipping carton.
- Remove the accessory box, and verify the contents against the parts inventory on the label attached to the carton.
- Pull out the packing material holding the router in place.
- Verify the contents of the carton against the packing list included with the router.
- Save the shipping carton and packing materials in case you later need to move or ship the router.
Verifying the MX5, MX10, MX40, and MX80 Routers Parts Received
A packing list is included in each shipment. Check the parts in the shipment against the items on the packing list. The packing list specifies the part numbers and descriptions of each part in your order.
If any part is missing, contact a customer service representative.
A fully configured router contains the router chassis with installed components, listed in Table 1, and an accessory box, which contains the parts listed in Table 2. The parts shipped with your router can vary depending on the configuration you ordered.

- Position the cable management bracket on the left side of the front of the chassis.
- Tighten the screws at the bottom and top of the bracket.

Moving the Mounting Brackets for Center-Mounting MX5, MX10, MX40, and MX80 Routers
Two removable mounting brackets are attached to the mounting holes closest to the front of the chassis (see Figure 2). You can move the pair of brackets to another position on the side of the chassis for center-mounting the router.
To move the mounting brackets from the front of the chassis toward the center of the chassis (see Figure 3):
- Remove the four screws at the top and bottom of the bracket.
- Pull the bracket away from the chassis.
- Align the bracket with the two sets of mounting holes located toward the center of the chassis.
- Insert the four screws at the top and bottom of the bracket and tighten each partially.
- Tighten the four screws completely.
- Repeat the procedure for the other bracket.

To install the router in the rack (see Figure 4 and Figure 5):
If you are installing more than one router in a rack, install the lowest one first. Installing a router in an upper position in a rack or cabinet requires a lift.
Before front mounting the router in a rack, have a qualified technician verify that the rack is strong enough to support the router's weight and is adequately supported at the installation site.
Lifting the chassis and mounting it in a rack requires two people (one person to hold the router in place and a second person to install the screws). The chassis weighs approximately 30 lb (13.6 kg).
