Connecting the ACX6360 to External Devices

Connecting the ACX6360 to a Management Ethernet Device

Ensure that you have an appropriate cable available. See Cable Specifications for Console and Management Connections for the ACX6360.

You can monitor and manage the ACX6360 by using a dedicated management channel. The device has two management ports—a 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 port for copper connections and a Gigabit Ethernet SFP port for fiber-optic connections. Use the management ports to connect the device to a network for out-of-band management.

Note:

You cannot use the management ports to perform the initial configuration of the ACX6360. You must configure the management ports through the console connection before you can successfully connect to the ACX6360 by using these ports. See Performing Software Configurations on the ACX6360.

To connect an ACX6360 to a network for out-of-band management (see Figure 1):

  1. Connect one end of the cable to one of the two management ports—labeled MGMT—on the ACX6360.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to the management network device.

Connecting the ACX6360 to a Management Console

Ensure that you have an RJ-45 to DB-9 rollover cable available. An RJ-45 cable with an RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter is provided with the ACX6360.

Note:

If your laptop or PC does not have a DB-9 plug connector pin and you want to connect your laptop or PC directly to the ACX6360, use a combination of the RJ-45 cable and RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter supplied with the router and a USB to DB-9 plug adapter. You must provide the USB to DB-9 plug adapter.

The ACX6360 has a console port with an RJ-45 connector. Use the console port to connect the router directly to a management console, such as a laptop, or to a console server.

To connect the ACX6360 to a management console (see Figure 2 or Figure 3):

  1. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the console port (labeled CON).
  2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable directly to a management console or console server.
