Configuring Ethernet OAM Link Fault Management with J-Web Configure

Use the J-Web Troubleshoot tab to configure Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) link fault management information for Ethernet interfaces. Figure 29 and Figure 30 show the configuration pages for Ethernet OAM link fault management.

To configure Ethernet OAM link fault management with J-Web Configure:

  1. If the Ethernet OAM Configure page is not displayed, select Troubleshoot > Ethernet OAM > Setup Link Fault Mgmt.

    Note: After you make changes to the configuration in this window, you must commit the changes immediately for them to take effect. To commit all changes to the active configuration, select Commit Options > Commit. See Using the Commit Options to Commit Configuration Changes (J-Web Procedure) for details about all commit options.

  2. To enable Ethernet OAM on an installed Ethernet interface, select the box to the left of the interface and click Apply. See Figure 29.
  3. To configure any interface, select the interface and enter information into the Ethernet OAM Configure page, as described in Table 75.
  4. Click one of the following buttons:
    • To apply the configuration and return to the initial Ethernet OAM page, click OK.
    • To cancel your entries and return to the initial Ethernet OAM page, click cancel.

General 802.3ah Options

Interface (read-only)

Identifies the interface being configured.

When you click OK or Apply, IEEE 802.3ah is enabled on this physical interface.

Link Discovery

Specify the discovery mode used for IEEE 802.3ah OAM support. The discovery process is triggered automatically when OAM IEEE 802.3ah functionality is enabled on a port.

In active mode, the interface discovers and monitors the peer on the link if the peer also supports IEEE 802.3ah OAM functionality. In passive mode, the peer initiates the discovery process. After the discovery process has been initiated, both sides participate in discovery.

From the list, select Active or Passive.

PDU Interval (required)

Sets the periodic OAM PDU transmit interval for fault detection.

Type the number of milliseconds to wait between transmissions.

The default value is 100 with a range of 100–1000.

PDU Threshold

Sets the number of OAM PDUs that an interface can miss before the link between peers is considered down.

Type the number of PDUs that can be missed.

The default value is 3 with a range of 3–10.

Remote Loopback

Configure the software to set the remote DTE into loopback mode. If remote-loopback mode is supported by the remote DTE.

When the peer is in remote-loopback mode, all frames except OAM PDUs are looped back without any changes made to the frames. OAM PDUs continue to be sent to the management plane and processed.

To enable remote loopback, select the check box.

Negotiation Options

Allow Remote Loopback

Specifies that the local interface will accept a loopback request from a remote peer.

To allow the routing platform to be configured for remote loopback, select the check box.

Disallow Link Events

Specifies that the sending of link event TLVs is disabled.

To disallow the sending of link event TLVs, select the check box.

Event Thresholds

Frame Error

Configure threshold values for sending frame error events on this interface.

A frame error is any frame error on the underlying physical layer. The threshold is reached when the number of frame errors reaches the configured value within the window. The default window is one second and is not configurable.

Type the number of frame errors for the threshold.

Frame Period

Configure threshold values for sending frame period error events on this interface.

A frame error is any frame error on the underlying physical layer. The frame period threshold is reached when the number of frame errors reaches the configured value within the period window. The default period window is the number of minimum size frames that can be transmitted on the underlying physical layer in one second. The window is not configurable.

Type the number of frame period errors for the threshold.

Frame Period Summary

Configure threshold values for sending frame second error events on this interface.

An errored frame second is any one-second period which has at least one errored frame. This event is generated if the number of errored frame seconds is equal to or greater than the specified threshold for that period window. The default window is 60 seconds. The window is not configurable.

Type the number of frame second errors for the threshold.

Symbol Period

Configure threshold values for sending symbol period error events on this interface.

A symbol error is any symbol code error on the underlying physical layer. The symbol period threshold is reached when the number of symbol errors reaches the configured value within the period window. The default period window is the number of symbols that can be transmitted on the underlying physical layer in one second. The window is not configurable.

Type the number of symbol period errors for the threshold.
