Using the J-Web Ping ATM Tool

You can ping an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) node on an ATM virtual circuit (VC) pathway to verify that the node can be reached over the network. The output is useful for diagnosing ATM node and network connectivity problems. The Services Router sends a series of echo requests to a specified ATM node and receives echo responses.

Alternatively, you can use the CLI ping atm command. (See the Junos OS System Basics and Services Command Reference.)

To use the ping ATM tool:

  1. Select Troubleshoot > Ping ATM from the task bar.

    Note: After you make changes to the configuration in this window, you must commit the changes immediately for them to take effect. To commit all changes to the active configuration, select Commit Options > Commit. See Using the Commit Options to Commit Configuration Changes (J-Web Procedure) for details about all commit options.

  2. Click the expand icon next to the Advanced options (see Figure 23).
  3. Enter information into the Ping ATM page, as described in Table 70.

    The Virtual Circuit and Interface fields are required fields.

  4. Click Start.

    The results of the ping operation are displayed in the main pane (see Figure 24). If no options are specified, each ping response is in the following format:

    53 byte oam cell received on (vpi=vpi vci=vci): seq=number

    Table 70 summarizes the output fields of the display.

  5. To stop the ping operation before it is complete, click OK.

Virtual Circuit

Specifies the ATM point-to-point virtual circuit identifier (VCI) to ping.

Type the virtual circuit identifier (vci), or the virtual path identifier (VPI)–VCI pair (vpi.vci), that you want to ping.

Interface

Specifies the interface on which the ATM ping requests are sent.

From the list, select the interface. For ATM 1 and ATM 2 interfaces, you must include a logical unit number in the interface name.

Send to

Specifies the node to which the ATM ping requests are sent:

  • end-to-end—Pings are sent to the end node.
  • segment—Pings are sent only to an intermediate node.

From the list, select the node.

Advanced Options

Count

Specifies the number of ping requests to send.

From the list, select the number of ping requests to send.

Interval

Specifies the interval, in seconds, between the transmission of each ping request.

From the list, select the interval.

Sequence Number

Specifies the starting sequence number (correlation tag).

Type the sequence number.
