Table 2 defines notice icons used in this guide.

Table 2: Notice Icons

Icon	Meaning	Description
	Informational note	Indicates important features or instructions.
	Tip	Indicates information to help you perform an activity more quickly or effectively.
	Best practice	Indicates a preferred method or setting among several alternatives.
	Caution	Indicates a situation that might result in loss of data or hardware damage.
	Warning	Alerts you to the risk of personal injury or death.
	Laser warning	Alerts you to the risk of personal injury from a laser.

This manual uses the following text conventions:

Router and router component labels are shown in a sans serif font. In the following example, ETHERNET is the label for the Ethernet management port on the router:
The 10/100-Mbps Ethernet RJ-45 connector is used for out-of-band management of the router and is labeled ETHERNET.
J-Web graphical user interface items that you click or select are shown in a bold text font. For example:
In the Logical Interfaces box, select All Interfaces.

To cancel the configuration, click Cancel.
A series of J-Web selections is shown in bold text font, with the selections separated by angle brackets. The following example instructs you to select Protocolsand then select Ospf:
In the configuration editor hierarchy, select Protocols>Ospf.
Statements, commands, filenames, directory names, IP addresses, and configuration hierarchy levels are shown in a sans serif font. In the following example, stub is a statement name and [edit protocols ospf area area-id] is a configuration hierarchy level:
To configure a stub area, include the stub statement at the [edit protocols ospf area area-id ] hierarchy level.
In examples, text that you type literally is shown in bold. In the following example, you type the words show chassis alarms to get information about the source of an alarm condition:user@host> show chassis alarms No alarms currently active
