Configuring Network Interfaces

Viewing Interfaces Configuration Page Options

  1. Select Configure>Interfaces in the J-Web user interface.

    The Viewing Interfaces configuration page appears. Table 5 explains the contents of this page.

  2. Click one:
    • Add—Adds a new or duplicate viewing interfaces configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 6.
    • Edit—Edits the selected viewing interfaces configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected viewing interfaces configuration.
  3. Click one:
    • OK—Saves the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Commit Options>Commit—Commits the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Cancel—Cancels your entries and returns to the main configuration page.
  4. Click Switch to L2 mode to switch between L2 and L3 mode and vice versa. Table 7 explains the contents of this page.

Displays the interface name. Logical interfaces configured under this interface appear in a collapsible list under the physical interface.

Admin status

Displays the administrative status of the interface. Status can be either Up or Down.

Link Status

Displays the operational status of the link. Status can be either Up or Down.

IP Address

Displays the configured IP addresses. Multiple IP addresses configured on one logical interface are displayed in a collapsible list under the logical interface.

Zone

Displays the security zone with which this interface is associated.

MTU

Displays the maximum transmission unit value for this physical interface.

Speed

Displays the Interface speed (10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, or Auto).

Link Mode

Displays the link mode status for this interface. Status can be Active, Passive, or None.

Auto Negotiation

Displays the auto negotiation status of the interface. Status can be either Enabled or Disabled.

Specifies the management IP address.

Caution: When you click Switch to L2 mode, the following confirm message appears: “Transitioning to L2 Transparent mode might fail due to some security configurations like (NAT, IPSEC, VPN). Are you sure you want to proceed?”

Note: This confirm message appears only when the security configurations like (NAT, IPSEC, VPN) were available in L3 mode.

Enter a valid IP address for the management interface.

Caution: When you enter the management IP address and click OK, the following confirm message appears: “During this action, the device will be rebooted and J-Web connectivity will be lost. Are you sure you want to continue?”

Switch to L3 mode

Management IP

Specifies the management IP address.

Enter a valid IP address for the management interface.

Management Interface

Displays the list of interfaces available on the device.

Select an option.

Caution: When you select the interface and click OK, the following confirm message appears: “During this action, the device will be rebooted and J-Web connectivity will be lost. Are you sure you want to continue?”

Fast Ethernet Interfaces Configuration Page Options

  1. Select Configure>Interfaces>Fast Ethernet in the J-Web user interface.

    The Fast Ethernet Interfaces configuration page appears.

  2. Click one:
    • Add>Logical Interface—Adds a new or duplicate Fast Ethernet interfaces configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 8.
    • Edit—Edits the selected Fast Ethernet interfaces configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected Fast Ethernet interfaces configuration.
  3. Click one:
    • OK—Saves the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Commit Options>Commit—Commits the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Cancel—Cancels your entries and returns to the main configuration page.

MTU(Bytes)

Specifies the maximum transmission unit size for the Fast Ethernet interface. The options available are:

  • For built-in Fast Ethernet interfaces and Dual-Port Fast Ethernet PIM interfaces, 9192 bytes.
  • For 4-Port Fast Ethernet ePIM interfaces, 1514 bytes.

The default MTU for Fast Ethernet interfaces is 1518.

Enter a value in bytes and then select an option.

Speed

Specifies the required transmission speed for this interface. The options available are:

  • 10Mbps
  • 100Mbps
  • 1Gbps
  • None

Select an option.

Link Mode

Specifies the link mode. The options available are:

  • Half Duplex
  • Full Duplex
  • None

Select an option.

Enable Loopback

Specifies whether to enable or disable the loopback option for this interface.

Select or clear this check box to enable or disable the loopback diagnostic option.

Enable Flow Control

Specifies whether to enable or disable the flow control option for this interface.

Select or clear this check box to enable or disable flow control.

Enable Per Unit Scheduler

Specifies whether to enable or disable scheduling on logical interfaces. Enables you to configure multiple output queues on a logical interface and associate an output scheduler and shaping rate with the queues.

Select or clear this check box to enable or disable scheduling.

Enable Vlan Tagging

Specifies whether VLAN tagging is enabled or disabled for this interface.

  • When VLAN tagging is disabled, only unit 0 can be configured.

    When VLAN tagging is enabled, other units besides unit 0 can be configured.

  • When VLAN tagging is disabled, configured VLAN IDs for logical interfaces must be deleted, because a VLAN ID can only be specified on tagged Ethernet interfaces.

    When VLAN tagging is enabled, you must configure a VLAN ID for the existing configured logical interfaces (if any) because a VLAN ID must be specified on tagged Ethernet interfaces.

  • Family Ethernet switching cannot be enabled on VLAN-tagged interfaces.

Select or clear this check box to enable or disable VLAN tagging.

Source MAC Filter

Specifies the hardware media access control address associated with the ARP address. The MAC address uniquely identifies the system and is expressed in the following format: mm:mm:mm:ss:ss:ss. The first three octets denote the hardware manufacturer ID, and the last three are serial numbers identifying the device.

To add a MAC address:

  • Click Add.
  • Enter the MAC address to be mapped to the ARP entry (for example, 00:12:1E:A9:8A:80).

To delete a MAC address:

  • Select the check box for a MAC address.
  • Click Delete.

Bridge Options

Translate

From VLAN ID

The VLAN ID available in the From VLAN ID is transferred to the To VLAN ID.

Add a new VLAN ID or remove an existing VLAN ID.

To VLAN ID

The VLAN ID is received from the From VLAN ID.

Add a new VLAN ID or remove an existing VLAN ID.

An option to configure the encapsulation for Fast Ethernet interfaces is not available. Use the CLI to configure the encapsulation.

Gigabit Ethernet Interfaces Configuration Page Options

  1. Select Configure>Interfaces>Gigabit Ethernet in the J-Web user interface.

    The Gigabit Ethernet Interfaces configuration page appears.

  2. Click one:
    • Add>Logical Interface—Adds a new or duplicate Gigabit Ethernet interfaces configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 9.
    • Edit—Edits the selected Gigabit Ethernet interfaces configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected Gigabit Ethernet interfaces configuration.

    • OK—Saves the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.

  • ATM permanent virtual circuits—Use this type of encapsulation for PPP over ATM (PPPoA) over SHDSL interfaces. This is the default encapsulation for ATM-over-SHDSL interfaces.
  • Ethernet over ATM encapsulation —Use this type of encapsulation for PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) over ATM-over-SHDSL interfaces that carry IPv4 traffic.

Select an option.

Description

Specifies that supplementary information about the physical ATM-over-SHDSL profile is added.

Enter a description of the physical ATM-over-SHDSL interface to clearly identify it in monitoring displays. Specify that it is an ATM-over-SHDSL interface.

VPI

Specifies the ATM virtual path identifier for the interface.

Enter a value from 0 through 255.

PIC Mode

Specifies the mode on the ATM-over-SHDSL interface. The available options are:

  • 1-port-atm–1-port 1-wire mode.
  • 2-port-atm–2-port 2-wire mode.

Select an option.

Annex

Specifies the type of annex for the interface.

Annex defines the System Reference Model for connecting DSL networks to the plain old telephone service (POTS). The options available are:

  • Annex A—Used in North American network implementations.
  • Annex B—Used in European network implementations.

Select or clear this check box to enable or disable auto negotiation.

Line rate

Specifies the available line rates, in kilobits per second, to use on a G.SHDSL interface.

Select the appropriate value. For 2-port-atm mode, you can select auto, which automatically selects a line rate.

Loopback

Specifies the type of loopback testing for the interface.

Loopback testing is a diagnostic procedure in which a signal is transmitted and returned to the sending device after passing through all or a portion of a network or circuit. The returned signal is compared with the transmitted signal in order to evaluate the integrity of the equipment or transmission path. The options available are:

  • local—Used for testing the SHDSL equipment with local network devices.
  • payload—Used to command the remote configuration to send back the received payload.
  • remote—Used to test SHDSL with a remote network configuration.

Select an option.

Current SNR Margin

Specifies the signal-to-noise ratio margin or disables SNR.

Select or clear the chec kbox to enable or disable the SNR margin.

To configure a specific value, type a number from 0 to 10 .

The range is 0 dB through 10 dB with a default value of 0.

SNEXT SNR Margin

Specifies that a value be set, from –10 dB through 10 dB, for the self-near-crosstalk SNR margin, or disables SNEXT.

Select or clear the check box to enable or disable the SNEXT SNR margin.

To configure a specific value, enter a value from 0 through 10.

An option to configure the encapsulation for Gigabit Ethernet interfaces is not available. Use the CLI to configure the encapsulation.

Logical Ethernet Interfaces Configuration Page Options

  1. Select Configure>Interface>Logical Ethernet in the J-Web user interface.

    The Logical Ethernet Interfaces configuration page appears.

  2. Click one:
    • Add>Logical Interface—Adds a new or duplicate logical Ethernet interfaces configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 10.
    • Edit—Edits the selected logical Ethernet interfaces configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected logical Ethernet interfaces configuration.
  3. Click one:
    • OK—Saves the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Commit Options>Commit—Commits the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Cancel—Cancels your entries and returns to the main configuration page.

IPv4 Address

Specifies an IPv4 address to be associated with this interface.

Enter a valid IPv4 address.

Subnet

Specifies a subnet for the IP address.

Select a subnet from 1 through 32.

Web auth

Specifies whether this IP address should be designated for Web authentication.

Select or clear the check box to enable or disable this IP address for Web authentication.

DHCP

Enables the DHCP client on the specific interface.

Select or clear the check box to enable or disable DHCP client for this IP address.

ARP

Enables the device to create a static Address Resolution Protocol entry for this interface by specifying the IP address of a node to associate with its MAC address. The IP address must be in the same subnet as the IPv4 address or prefix of the interface you are configuring.

Static ARP entries associate the IP and MAC addresses of nodes on the same subnet, enabling a device to respond to ARP requests that have destination addresses that are not local to the incoming interface.

To create a static ARP entry:

  • Click Edit.
  • In the ARP Address window, click Add.
  • Enter the MAC address to be mapped to the ARP entry (for example, 00:12:1E:A9:8A:80).
  • Select the check box for Publish if you want to enable the device to reply to ARP requests for the specified address.
IPv6 Address (Select the check box to activate this tab.)

IPv6 Address

Specifies an IPv6 address to be associated with this interface.

Enter a valid IPv6 address.

Subnet

Specifies a subnet for the IP address.

Select a subnet in the range of 1 through 32.

Ethernet Switching (Select the check box to activate this tab.)

Port Mode

Specifies whether this interface operates in access or trunk mode.

Select access mode to restrict the interface to a single VLAN. Access interfaces typically connect to network devices such as PCs, printers, IP telephones, and IP cameras.

Select trunk mode to allow the interface to be in multiple VLANs and multiplex traffic between different VLANs.

VLAN Member

Specifies the VLAN with which this interface is to be associated.

Select the VLAN from the list.

VoIP VLAN

Specifies the VoIP VLAN with which this interface is to be associated.

Select the VoIP VLAN from the list.

ATM-over-VDSL Interfaces Configuration Page Options

  1. Select Configure>Interfaces>ATM-over-VDSL in the J-Web user interface.

    The ATM-over-VDSL Interfaces configuration page appears.

  2. Click one:
    • Add—Adds a new or duplicate ATM-over-VDSL interfaces configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 11.
    • Edit—Edits the selected ATM-over-VDSL interfaces configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected ATM-over-VDSL interfaces configuration.

    • Add—Adds a new ATM-over-ADSL configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 13.
    • Edit—Edits a selected ATM-over-ADSL configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected ATM-over-ADSL configuration.
  3. Click one:
    • OK—Saves the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Commit Options>Commit—Commits the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Cancel—Cancels your entries and returns to the main configuration page.

Operating Mode

Specifies the type of DSL operating mode for the ATM-over-ADSL interface. The options available for Annex A, or Annex B, or Annex M (applicable to SRX210 devices), are:

  • auto—Configure the ADSL interface to autonegotiate settings with the DSLAM located at the central office.

    For Annex A, the ADSL interface trains in either ANSI T1.413 Issue II mode or ITU G.992.1 mode.

    For Annex B, the ADSL interface trains in ITU G.992.1 mode.

    For Annex M, the ADSL interface trains in ITU G.992.3 mode (applicable to SRX210 devices).

  • itu-dmt-bis—Configures the ADSL interface to train in ITU G.992.3 mode. The ADSL interface trains in ITU G.992.5 mode.
  • adsl2plus—Configures the ADSL interface to train in ITU G.992.5 mode. You can configure this mode only when it is supported on the DSLAM.
  • For Annex A and Annex B, select the following: itu-dmt—Configures the ADSL interface to train in ITU G.992.1 mode.
  • adsl2plus—Configures the ADSL interface to train in ITU G.992.5 mode. You can configure this mode only when it is supported on the DSLAM.
  • itu-dmt-bis—Configures the ADSL interface to train in ITU G.992.3 mode. The ADSL interface also trains in ITU G.992.5 mode.
  • For Annex A only, select the following: ansi-dmt—Configures the ADSL interface to train in the ANSI T1.413 Issue II mode.
  • For Annex B only, select the following: A
  • itu-annexb-ur2—Configures the ADSL line to train in the G.992.1 Deutsche Telekom UR-2 mode.

Description

1-Port Gigabit Ethernet SFP Mini-PIM Interface Configuration Page Options

  1. Select Configure>Interface>ge-0/0/1 in the J-Web user interface.

    The 1-Port Gigabit Ethernet SFP Mini-PIM interface configuration page appears.

  2. Click one:
    • Add>Logical Interface—Adds a new 1-Port Gigabit Ethernet SFP Mini-PIM interface configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 14.
    • Edit—Edits a selected 1-Port Gigabit Ethernet SFP Mini-PIM interface configuration.
    • Enable/Disable—Enables or disables a selected 1-Port Gigabit Ethernet SFP Mini-PIM interface configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected 1-Port Gigabit Ethernet SFP Mini-PIM interface configuration.
  3. Click one:
    • OK—Saves the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Commit Options>Commit—Commits the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Cancel—Cancels your entries and returns to the main configuration page.

Description

Specifies the Mini-PIM’s logical interface.

Enter a description for the 1-Port GE SFP Mini-PIM logical Interface.

Unit

Specifies the configured unit.

Enter the unit number.

Zone

Specifies the security zone with which this interface is associated. The options available are:

  • trust
  • untrust
  • junos-global

Select an option.

Family

Specifies the family protocol type to which the 1-Port Giga Ethernet SFP Mini-PIM logical Interface is added. The options available are:

  • IPv4
  • IPv6

Select an option.

2-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet XPIM Interfaces Configuration Page Options

  1. Select Configure>Interface>ge-0/0/2 in the J-Web user interface.

    The 2-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet XPIM interface configuration page appears.

  2. Click one:
    • Add>Logical Interface—Adds a new 2-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet XPIM interface configuration. Enter information as specified in Table 15.
    • Edit—Edits a selected 2-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet XPIM interface configuration.
    • Enable/Disable—Enables or disables a selected 2-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet XPIM interface configuration.
    • Delete—Deletes the selected 2-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet XPIM interface configuration.
  3. Click one:
    • OK—Saves the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.
    • Commit Options>Commit—Commits the configuration and returns to the main configuration page.

Type a description of the Gigabit Ethernet interface to clearly identify it in monitoring displays.

MTU (bytes)

Specifies the maximum transmission unit size for the media or protocol. The default MTU size depends on the device type.

Enter a value from 256 through 9192.

Clocking

Specifies the interface clock source. The options available are:

  • Internal
  • External

Select an option.

Per Unit Scheduler

Provides the option to enable subunit queuing on frame relay or VLAN IQ interface.

Select the option.

Gigabit Ethernet Options

Flow Control

Specifies the option to regulate the amount of traffic sent out a Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, or 10-Gigabit Ethernet interface. The options available are:

  • Yes—Enables flow control.
  • No—Disables flow control.

Select an option.

On all branch SRX Series devices, in the J-Web interface, there is no support for changing the T1 interface to an E1 interface or vice versa. As a workaround, use the CLI to convert from T1 to E1 and vice versa.
