ADSL PIM

The ADSL PIM provides a single physical interface to asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) network media types. The ADSL PIM, one supporting Annex A (Figure 33) over plain old telephone service (POTS) and the other Annex B (Figure 34) over ISDN, includes one physical ADSL port for an ATM-over-ADSL connection.

The ADSL PIM provides the following key features:

• Onboard network processor
• ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+ protocols on the same PIM
• “Dying gasp” notification
• Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Adaptation Layer 5 (AAL5) encapsulation

The ADSL PIMs have two LEDs to indicate the status of the PIM and its port. Table 33 describes the meaning of the LED states.
