To download software upgrades, you must have a Web account with Juniper Networks. To obtain an account, complete the registration form at the Juniper Networks Web site: https://www.juniper.net/registration/Register.jsp.
Before upgrading, be sure to back up the currently running and active file system and configuration so that you can recover to a known, stable environment in case the upgrade is unsuccessful. To back up the file system, you must have a removable compact flash drive installed on the J4300 or J6300 Services Router, or a USB storage device installed on any J-series Services Router. The backup device must have a storage capacity of at least 256 MB.
To back up the file system to the removable compact flash drive, issue the following command:
- user@host> request system snapshot media removable-compact-flash
To back up the file system to the removable USB storage device, issue the following command:
- user@host> request system snapshot media usb
