Replacing an IOC on VXA Series Content Engines

VXA Series Content Engines support the following IOCs:

    • 4-port Gigabit IOC (model number 1GEIOC)
    • 2-port Gigabit IOC (model number 10GEIOC)

To replace an IOC, see the following topics:

Removing an IOC from VXA Series Content Engines

When you remove an IOC, the VXA Series Content Engine continues to function.

An IOC installs horizontally in the front of the appliance. The IOCs are hot-insertable and hot-removable.

    To remove an IOC:

    1. Issue the reload halt command.

Caution: If you do not use the reload halt command before powering off the appliance, the flash memory might become corrupted.

    2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to an ESD point on the appliance.

For more information about ESD, see Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge Damage on VXA Series Content Engines.

    3. Loosen the captive thumbscrews located at the sides of the IOC panel.
    4. If the IOC has ejector handles, press the red release buttons, and pull the ejector handles outward to the open position.
    5. Carefully slide the IOC out of the appliance.
    6. Place the IOC in its antistatic bag, being careful not to touch components, pins, leads or solder connections.
    7. Cover the empty slot with a blank filler panel, and tighten the filler panel's captive thumbscrews.

Installing an IOC in VXA Series Content Engines

The VXA2010 Series Content Engine switches two ports of 10-Gigabit Ethernet traffic from fiber interface media. It is inserted horizontally into the IOC slot of the appliance to communicate with the Content Engine and to receive power.

    To install an IOC:

    1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to an ESD point on the appliance.

For more information about ESD, see Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge Damage on VXA Series Content Engines.

    2. Choose the slot where you want to insert the IOC.
    3. Loosen the captive thumbscrews that secure the blank filler panel covering the empty slot, if present, and remove the filler panel.
    4. Remove the IOC from its antistatic bag, being careful not to touch components, pins, leads, or solder connections.
    5. Verify that the ejectors are in the open position (facing outward).
    6. Guide the IOC into the chassis by placing it between the guides of the selected slot and pushing the card until it stops.

The card stops sliding when the ejectors make contact with the appliance.

Caution: If you meet strong resistance when attempting to seat the card using the ejectors, remove it from the appliance, and confirm that the slot is designed to hold the component. Also, be sure that you have aligned the left and right edges in the correct matching tracks.

    7. Insert the IOC into the midplane by simultaneously pressing both ejectors inward and exerting forward pressure on the card until the small red release buttons click into place.
    8. Tighten the captive thumbscrews.
