Replacing an AC Power Supply on VXA Series Content Engines

The VXA Series Content Engines can be optionally equipped with dual-redundant, hot-swappable AC power supply modules.

Before you remove a power supply, be aware of the following:

    • The minimum number of power supplies must be present in the appliance at all times.
    • After powering off a power supply, wait at least 60 seconds before turning it back on.

Caution: Do not leave a power supply slot empty for more than 30 minutes while the appliance is operational. For proper airflow and to prevent thermal shutdown of the operating power supply unit, each power supply slot must contain either a power supply or a blank panel. If you remove a power supply, you must install a replacement power supply or a blank panel shortly after the removal.

To hot-swap the power supply module (see Figure 1 and Figure 2):

    1. Remove the power cord from the AC power source. Follow the instructions for your site.
    2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to an ESD point on the appliance or the rack.
    3. Unplug the power cord from the inlet in the power supply.
    4. Remove the small power supply locking tab by loosening the thumbscrew located to the left between the two power supply modules.
    5. The AC power supply has a pull handle and a locking tab. Press the locking tab to the right while you pull out the module using the handle.
    6. Insert the new power supply module into the appliance. Hold the power supply locking tab to the right until the power supply is fully seated. The power supply faceplate should be flush with any adjacent power supply faceplate or blank installed in the power supply slot.
    7. Move the power supply locking tab to the left to ensure the power supply module is locked in the appliance.
    8. Replace the chassis locking tab and tighten the thumbscrew so that it secures both power supplies in the chassis.
    9. Insert the power cord into the inlet on the power supply.
    10. Insert the power cord into the AC power source outlet.
