Replacing a JCS 1200 Chassis

To replace a chassis, you must remove components from the old chassis and install them in the new chassis.

Topics include:

Removing Components from a JCS 1200 Chassis

To remove components from a JCS 1200 chassis:

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Power off any Routing Engines in the JCS 1200 platform (see Powering Off a JCS 1200 Routing Engine).
  3. Disconnect the power from the JCS 1200 platform (see Disconnecting Power from the JCS 1200 Platform).
  4. Remove the following components from the front of the JCS 1200 platform:
  5. Disengage the following components from the JCS 1200 midplane using the procedure indicated:

Note: Make sure each component is pulled out of the JCS 1200 platform at least 1 in. (2.54 cm).

  6. Remove the fan shuttle from the JCS 1200 platform (see Removing a JCS 1200 Fan Shuttle).
  7. Remove the upper and lower power boxes from the rear of the JCS 1200 chassis (see Removing a JCS 1200 Power Box).
  8. If you are instructed to return the chassis, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Installing Components in a Replacement JCS 1200 Chassis

To install a components in a replacement JCS 1200 chassis:

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Install the upper and lower power boxes into the JCS 1200 chassis (see Installing a JCS 1200 Power Box).
  3. Install the fan shuttle into the JCS 1200 chassis (see Installing a JCS 1200 Fan Shuttle).
  4. Push the following components fully into the front of the JCS 1200 platform to reengage the midplane:
  5. Slide each power module or filler into the bay; then push the release handle to the closed position (see Installing a JCS 1200 Power Module).
  6. Reconnect the power to the JCS 1200 platform (see Connecting the JCS 1200 AC Platform to AC Power or Connecting the JCS 1200 DC Platform to DC Power).
  7. Restart any Routing Engines that were powered off in the JCS 1200 platform (see Powering On a JCS 1200 Routing Engine).
