Data Center Fabric Reference Design Scaling Summary for Junos OS Release 20.4R3

This section provides the scale numbers for Juniper Networks switches running Junos OS Release 20.4R3 and assuming various roles in the following Data Center Fabric validated reference designs:

  • Centrally routed bridging overlay

  • Edge-routed bridging overlay

  • Collapsed spine topology

Scaling for Juniper Networks Switches In a Centrally Routed Bridging Overlay

Table 1 provides a summary of the scale numbers for a centrally routed bridging overlay. For this reference design, we used the following devices running Junos OS Release 20.4R3:

  • Spine and border spine—QFX10002-60C, QFX10002-72Q, and QFX10008

  • Leaf—QFX5100-24Q, QFX5200-32c, QFX5120-48T, QFX5120-48Y

These numbers do not represent the maximum supported scale. They represent only the initial solution testing performed.

1We support a total of 65,000 ARP and ND entries. Although our tests resulted in 40,000 ARP entries and 20,000 ND entries, we support any combination of ARP and ND entries, as long as the maximum total of both is less than or equal to 65,000.

2Only QFX5110 switches as Layer 2 leaf devices were tested with 48 ESIs.

Scaling for Juniper Networks Switches In An Edge-Routed Bridging Overlay

Table 2 provides the scale numbers for an edge-routed bridging overlay. For this reference design, we used the following devices running Junos OS Release 20.4R3:

  • Server leaf:

    • QFX10002-36Q/72Q and QFX10008

    • QFX5120-48T

  • Border leaf—

These numbers do not represent the maximum supported scale. They represent only the initial solution testing performed.

Scaling for Juniper Networks Switches In a Collapsed Spine Topology

Table 3 provides the scale numbers for a collapsed spine topology. For this reference design, we used the following device, which is running Junos OS Release 20.4R3:

  • Collapsed spine—QFX10002-36Q/72Q/60C, QFX10008, and QFX5120-32C

These numbers do not represent the maximum supported scale. They represent only the initial solution testing performed.
