PTX1000 Management Cable Specifications and Pinouts
Cable Specifications for Console and Management Connections for the PTX1000
Table 1 lists the specifications for the cables that connect the PTX1000 to a management device.
The PTX1000 also has an SFP management port that supports transceivers that use fiber-optic cables. See Determining Transceiver Support for the PTX1000 for more information about supported transceivers.
Table 1: Cable Specifications for Console and Management Connections for the PTX1000
Port on PTX1000 | Cable Specification | Cable Supplied | Maximum Length | Device Receptacle |
---|---|---|---|---|
Console ( | RS-232 (EIA-232) serial cable | One 7-foot (2.13-meter)-long RJ-45 patch cable and RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter | 7 feet (2.13 meters) | RJ-45 |

Management Port Connector Pinouts for the PTX1000
The 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 management port (labeled MGMT
) uses an RJ-45 connector to connect to a management
device for out-of-band management.
Table 2 provides the pinout information of the RJ-45 management port connector. An RJ-45 cable is supplied with the PTX1000.

Console Port Connector Pinouts for the PTX1000
The console port (labeled CON
) is an RS-232
serial interface that uses an RJ-45 connector to connect to a console
management device. The default baud rate for the console port is 9600 baud.
Table 3 provides the pinout information for the RJ-45 console connector. An RJ-45 cable and an RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter are supplied with the PTX1000.
If your laptop or PC does not have a DB-9 male connector pin and you want to connect your laptop or PC directly to a PTX1000, use a combination of the RJ-45 cable and RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter supplied with the router and a USB to DB-9 male adapter. You must provide the USB to DB-9 male adapter.
Table 3: Console Port Connector Pinouts for the PTX1000
Pin | Signal | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | RTS Output | Request to send |
2 | DTR Output | Data terminal ready |
3 | TxD Output | Transmit data |
4 | Signal Ground | Signal ground |
5 | Signal Ground | Signal ground |

USB Port Specifications for the PTX1000
USB flash drives used with the PTX1000 must support USB 2.0 or later.
Remove the USB flash drive before upgrading Junos OS or rebooting a PTX1000. Failure to do so could expose your router to unpredictable behavior.
