Optical ILA Management Cable Specifications and Pinouts
Cable Specifications for Console and Management Connections for the Optical ILA
Table 1 lists the specifications for the cables that connect the optical ILA to a management device.
Table 1: Cable Specifications for Console and Management Connections for the Optical ILA
Port on optical ILA | Cable Specification | Cable Supplied | Maximum Length | Device Receptacle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Console ( | RS-232 (EIA-232) serial cable | One 7-foot (2.13-meter)-long RJ-45 patch cable and RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter | 7 feet (2.13 meters) | RJ-45 |
Management ( | Category 5 cable or equivalent suitable for 1000BASE-T operation | One 7-foot (2.13-meter)-long RJ-45 patch cable | 328 feet (100 meters) | RJ-45 |
Management Port Connector Pinouts for the Optical ILA
The 1000BASE-T management port (labeled MGMT) uses an RJ-45 connector to connect to a management device for out-of-band
management.
Table 2 provides the pinout information of the RJ-45 management port connector. An RJ-45 cable is supplied with the optical ILA.
Table 2: RJ-45 Management Port Connector Pinouts for the Optical ILA
Pin | Signal | Description |
|---|---|---|
1 | TRP1+ | Transmit/receive data pair 1 |
2 | TRP1– | Transmit/receive data pair 1 |
3 | TRP2+ | Transmit/receive data pair 2 |
4 | TRP3+ | Transmit/receive data pair 3 |
5 | TRP3– | Transmit/receive data pair 3 |
6 | TRP2– | Transmit/receive data pair 2 |
7 | TRP4+ | Transmit/receive data pair 4 |

Console Port Connector Pinouts for the Optical ILA
The console port (labeled CON) is an RS-232
serial interface that uses an RJ-45 connector to connect to a console
management device. The default baud rate for the console port is 9600 baud.
Table 3 provides the pinout information for the RJ-45 console connector. An RJ-45 cable and RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter are supplied with the optical ILA.
If your laptop or PC does not have a DB-9 plug connector pin and you want to connect your laptop or PC directly to an optical ILA, use a combination of the RJ-45 cable and RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter supplied with the device and a USB to DB-9 plug adapter. You must provide the USB to DB-9 plug adapter.
