Cleaning CXP Transceivers with a Dry Cloth Cleaning Tool

 

Purpose

During maintenance or replacement procedures, small deposits of oil, dust, and debris can enter the CXP transceivers. These deposits can cause loss of light, reducing signal power and causing intermittent problems with the optical connection. Dry cleaning tools (see Figure 1) for cleaning CXP transceivers are provided in the TX Matrix Plus tool kit (model number TXP-TOOLKIT-3D). This tool uses a dry cloth to remove dust and oil from the fiber optics.

If an optical link is not functioning correctly, and you are not able to determine the cause of the problem, we recommend that you clean the CXP transceivers connected to the TXP-F13-3D SIB ports and TXP-LCC-3D ports.

Action

To clean the CXP transceivers using the dry cloth cleaning tool:

  1. Disable the TXP-LCC-3D SIB port connected to the TXP-F13-3D SIB by issuing the request chassis sib optics lcc command. For example:
    request chassis sib optics lcc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 disable
  2. Disable the TXP-F13-3D SIB port by issuing the request chassis sib optics sfc command. For example:
    request chassis sib optics sfc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 disable
  3. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  4. Disconnect the CXP cable between the TXP-F13-3D SIB and TXP-LCC-3D SIB.
  5. Remove the dust cap from the cleaning tool.
  6. Insert the tip of the dry cloth cleaning tool into the CXP transceiver (see Figure 2 and Figure 3).

    Note

    Although you can remove the CXP transceiver from the TXP-LCC-3D SIB or TXP-LCC-3D SIB, it is not necessary.

  7. Rotate the thumb wheel in the direction indicated on the cleaning tool until the thumb wheel clicks to indicate a completed cleaning action (see Figure 4).

  8. After you clean the CXP transceivers, reconnect the CXP cable between the TXP-F13-3D SIB port and TXP-LCC-3D SIB port.Note

    If you removed the CXP transceiver from the SIBs, reinsert the transceiver in the SIB before reconnecting the cable.

  9. Enable the TXP-LCC-3D SIB port by issuing the request chassis sib optics lcc command. For example:
    request chassis sib optics lcc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 enable
  10. Enable the TXP-F13-3D SIB port by issuing the request chassis sib optics sfc command. For example:
    request chassis sib optics sfc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 enable
  11. Issue the show chassis fabric optical-links detail command to verify that the TXP-F13-3D SIB port and TXP-LCC-3D SIB port are online.
  12. Issue the show chassis fabric plane extensive command. Verify that the state of the optical link is Links ok.
  13. If the state of the TXP-F13-3D SIB, TXP-LCC-3D SIB, or link is still incorrect, contact your customer support representative for additional instructions.
  14. Repeat these steps for all CXP transceivers that require cleaning.
  15. Replace the dust cap on the cleaning tool.
