    Performing a PIC Swap Test

    Purpose

To verify PIC failure by performing a swap test on the component.

    Action

To perform a swap test on a PIC:

    1. Ensure that the PIC is firmly seated in the FPC or the FPC slot.
    2. If the PIC is firmly seated and still fails, remove it from the FPC. Follow the PIC removal procedure in the appropriate router PIC guide.
    3. Check the PIC connector pins.
      1. If a pin is bent, contact JTAC and generate a Return Material Authorization (RMA). For more information about returning a failed router part, see Return the Failed Component.
      2. If no pins are bent, install a PIC that you know works into the FPC.
      3. Check the PIC status by looking at the PIC LEDs and using the show chassis fpc pic-status command (see Display the PIC Media Type and FPC Status).
    4. If the PIC works, then the PIC you removed is defective. Contact JTAC and generate an RMA. See Return the Failed Component.
