Verifying the Hardware Versions Before an Upgrade to a T1600 Router

Before upgrading from a T640 router to a T1600 router, verify if the control boards, rear fan tray, and power supplies are supported for a T1600 router.

  1. Verifying the Hardware Version of the Control Board

  2. Verifying the Hardware Version of the Rear Fan Tray

  3. Verifying the Hardware Version of the Power Supplies

Verifying the Hardware Version of the Control Board

The T1600 router supports the following control boards:

  • T Series control board (T-CB) model number (CB-T)

    Note

The control board shown as CB-T in the CLI output is the T640 standard control board (model number CB-L-T), which is not supported for T1600 routers, and is not the T-series control board (model number CB-T).

  • Line-card chassis control board (LCC-CB) model number (CB-LCC)

To verify that supported control boards are installed:

  1. Issue the show chassis hardware command on the T640 router.

In this example, the show chassis hardware output shows that two control boards shown as Control Board (CB-T) are installed. These control boards are the T640 standard control boards (model number CB-L-T), and not T Series control boards

In this example, the show chassis hardware output shows that two control boards shown as T-series Control Board are installed. These control boards are supported for a standalone T1600 router.

    user@host> show chassis hardware
  2. Issue the show chassis hardware models command on the T640 router.

In this example, the show chassis hardware models output shows that two control boards shown as CB-L-T-S are installed. These control boards are the T640 standard control boards (model number CB-L-T), and not supported for the T1600 router.

  3. If model number CB-L-T is installed, order control boards supported by the T1600 router, and install them on your T640 router before upgrading to a T1600 router.

Verifying the Hardware Version of the Rear Fan Tray

The T1600 router supports the following rear fan trays:

  • Model number FAN-REAR-TX-T640

  • Model number FAN-REAR-TXP-LCC

    Note

This fan tray is required for T1600 routers in a routing matrix.

  • Model number FAN-R

The supported rear fan trays have eight fans, which are required to support the additional thermal power generation of the T1600 router. Model number RHTREARTRAY-T has five blowers and does not provide sufficient cooling for the T1600 router.

To verify that a supported rear fan tray is installed:

  1. Issue the show chassis hardware models command on the T640 router.

In this example, the show chassis hardware models output shows that the rear fan tray shown as FRU model numberFAN-REAR-TX-T640-S is installed. This rear fan tray is supported for the T1600 router.

  2. Issue the show chassis environment command:

In this example, the output shows that the rear fan tray has five blowers, indicating that the model number RHTREARTRAY-T rear fan tray is installed. The last five lines of the output for the fans each include Blower in the description.

    user@host> show chassis environment

In this example, the output shows that the rear fan tray has eight fans, indicating that the model number FAN-REAR-TX-T640-S rear fan tray is installed. The last eight lines of the output for the fans each begin with Rear Tray and include fan in the description.

    user@host> show chassis environment
  3. If model number RHTREARTRAY-T with five blowers is installed, order a supported rear fan tray, and install it before installing the power supplies supported for the T1600 router.

Verifying the Hardware Version of the Power Supplies

The T1600 router supports the following power supplies

  • Three-input 240-A DC power supply (model number PWR-T1600-3-80-DC)

  • Four-input 240-A DC power supply (model number PWR-T1600-4-60-DC)

  • Six-input DC power supply (model number PWR-T-6-60-DC)

  • Three-phase delta AC power supply (model number (PWR-T-10KW-DELTA-AC )

  • Three-phase wye AC power supply (model number PWR-T-10KW-WYE-AC)

The T1600 router does not support the two-input 180-A DC power supply (model number PWR-T-DC).

To verify that supported power supplies are installed:

  1. Issue the show chassis hardware models command on the T640 router.

In this example, the show chassis hardware models output shows that two power supplies shown as FRU model number PWR-T-DC-S are installed. These power supplies are the 2-input 160-A DC power supplies (model number PWR-T-DC), and not supported for the T1600 router.

  2. If two-input 160-A DC power supplies (model number PWR-T-DC) are installed in your T640 router, order power supplies supported by the T1600 router, and install them on your T640 router before upgrading to a T1600 router.
