Connecting to the SRX550 High Memory Services Gateway from the CLI with the USB Console Port
You can connect your management device to the USB console port on the services gateway and use the CLI to configure the services gateway, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Connecting to the USB Console Port on the SRX550 High Memory Services Gateway

To connect to the CLI using a local management device through the USB console port on the services gateway:
- If you have not already done so, obtain the USB console driver software from the Juniper Networks website or Silicon Labs website.
- Install the USB console driver software by following these
steps:
Caution: Install the USB console driver software before attempting to establish a physical connection between the services gateway and the management device, otherwise the connection will fail.
- Copy and extract the .zip file to your local folder.
- Double-click the .exe file. The installer window appears.
- Click Install.
- Click Continue Anyway on the next screen to
complete the installation.
Note: If you choose STOP Installation at any time during the process then all or part of the software will fail to install. In such a case, it is recommended that you uninstall the USB console driver and then reinstall it.
- Click OK when the installation is complete.
- Plug the large end of the USB cable supplied with the services gateway into a USB port on the management device (see Figure 1).
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB console port on the services gateway (see Figure 1).
- Start your asynchronous terminal emulation application (such as Microsoft Windows HyperTerminal), and select the new COM port installed by the USB Console driver software. In most cases, this is the highest-numbered COM port in the selection menu.
- Configure the port settings, as listed in Table 1.

- If you have not already done so, power on the services
gateway by pressing the Power button on the front of the services
gateway. Verify that the POWER LED on the front panel turns green.
The terminal emulation screen on your management device displays the startup sequence. When the services gateway has finished starting up, a login prompt appears.
- Log in as the user root. No password is required at initial connection, but you must assign a root password before committing any configuration settings.
