Overview of Upgrading an Operational Line-Card Chassis and Integrating It into a TX Matrix Plus Routing Matrix (TXP-T1600 Configuration)

 Note

Only the first T1600 router you integrate with the TX Matrix Plus router can be operational. During the integration of an operational T1600 router with the TX Matrix router, the T1600 router continues to pass traffic until it is rebooted. The traffic interruption during the reboot is comparable to the interruption that occurs during a Junos OS major upgrade.

Additional T1600 routers you integrate must be offline. Follow the procedures described in Overview of Upgrading a Line-Card Chassis and Overview of Integrating an Offline Line-Card Chassis into a Routing Matrix.

You must proceed through the procedures in the following order. To upgrade and connect an operational T1600 router:

  1. Verify that you have the required hardware. See Hardware and Software Requirements for a T1600 Line-Card Chassis in a TX Matrix Plus Routing Matrix.
  2. Order the hardware. See Upgrade Kits for TX Matrix Plus Routers and Line-Card Chassis.

  3. Prepare the installation site for the T1600 router.

  4. Review all safety guidelines and warnings for both the TX Matrix Plus router and T1600 router.Warning

    To avoid harm to yourself or the TX Matrix Plus router as you install and maintain it, you must follow the safety procedures for working with Internet routers, as well as the guidelines and warnings for working with and near electrical equipment. However, providing an exhaustive set of guidelines for working with electrical equipment is beyond the scope of this documentation.

  5. Verify that the fiber-optic array cables have been connected to the TX Matrix Plus router.

  6. Unpack the T1600 router components and verify the parts received.
  7. Configure graceful switchover on the T1600 router.

  8. Upgrade the Junos OS on the existing Routing Engines to Release 10.1 or later.

  9. Upgrade the host subsystems.

  10. Upgrade the Junos OS on the new Routing Engines to Release 10.1 or later.

  11. Upgrade the power supplies, if required.

  12. Upgrade the rear fan tray, if required.

  13. Create a T1600 configuration file for integration into the routing matrix.

  14. Prepare to upgrade the SIBs.

  15. Connect and integrate one switching plane.

    Note

    During the upgrade and connection of the switching planes, the T1600 router might experience some packet loss, depending on the operational environment. For more information, contact your customer support representative.

  16. Connect and integrate each remaining switching plane one at a time.

  17. Connect the control planes between an operational T1600 router and TX Matrix Plus router.

  18. Set the M/S switch on each LCC-CB faceplate to M.

  19. Transfer the T1600 configuration file to the routing matrix.

  20. Transfer control of the T1600 router to the TX Matrix Plus router.
