Overview of Upgrading a T640 Router to a T1600 Router

 Note

The T640 router can be upgraded to a standalone T1600 router while the router is powered on and operational.

Note

Do not install T1600-FPC4s until after all upgrade procedures are completed.

To upgrade the T640 router to a T1600 router:

  1. If you have not already done so, install JUNOS Release 8.5 or later in the T640 router.
  2. Verify that control boards supported for the T1600 router are installed. If needed, order supported control boards, and install them before upgrading the SIBs.
  3. Verify that a rear fan tray supported for the T1600 routers is installed. If needed, order a supported rear fan tray, and install it before upgrading the power supplies.
  4. Prepare the site. Provision additional power as needed.
  5. Verify that power supplies supported for the T1600 routers are installed. If needed, order supported power supplies. Replace the power supplies before upgrading the SIBs.
  6. Upgrade the existing standard SIBs to T1600-SIBs. Note

    During the SIB upgrade:

    • The router should not experience packet loss if the traffic is less than 50 percent per Packet Forwarding Engine in each FPC.

    • The router might experience some packet loss if the traffic is more than 50 percent per Packet Forwarding Engine in each FPC, depending on the operational environment.
