Removing a TXP-F13-3D SIB

The TXP-F13-3D SIBs are located in the rear of the chassis in slots 0 through 15. Each TXP-F13-3D SIB weighs approximately 23.9 lb (10.9 kg).

F13 SIBs in active data switching planes are hot-pluggable. F13 SIBs in a spare data switching planes are hot-insertable and hot-removable. When you remove a F13 SIB in a spare switching plane, traffic forwarding continues without any degradation as long as the F13 SIBs in the other four switching planes remain in the chassis and online. When you remove a F13 SIB in an active switching plane, traffic forwarding continues without any degradation in the active switching planes. However, removing a F13 SIB in an active switching plane causes performance degradation in that switching plane. To avoid performance degradation, you can take the switching plane offline before you remove a F13 SIB.

To remove a TXP-F13-3D SIB (see figure Figure 1):

  1. Have ready an antistatic mat for the TXP-F13-3D SIB, and one dust cover for each switching plane cable you remove from the TXP-F13-3D SIB.
  2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  3. Ensure the switching plane cables connected to the TXP-F13-3D SIB are labeled so you can reconnect them correctly.
  4. Take the switching plane offline.

  5. Use one of the following methods to take the TXP-F13-3D SIB offline:
    • Issue the request chassis sib f13 slot slot-number offline command. For example:

      user@host> request chassis sib f13 slot 6 offline

      For more information, see request chassis sib.

    • Press and hold the SIB button on the left side of the TXP-F13-3D SIB faceplate to take the TXP-F13-3D SIB offline. Hold the buttons down until all the LEDs on the faceplate are not lit.

  6. Remove each switching plane cable from the TXP-F13-3D SIB. If a separate CXP transceiver and CXP cable is used, detach the CXP cable first and then pull out the CXP transceiver. If an AOC transceiver is used, pull out the AOC transceiver.Warning

    Do not look directly into a fiber-optic cable connected to a port. The fiber optics emit laser light that can damage your eyes.

  7. Install a dust cover on each CXP transceiver and CXP cable you removed from the TXP-F13-3D SIB. Align the dust cover with the cable or transceiver and carefully press them together until they stop. The dust cover and the cable or transceiver are keyed to ensure proper mating.
  8. Move the switching plane cables to the side of the TXP-F13-3D SIB so they do not interfere with the removal of the TXP-F13-3D SIB. You might need to remove the cables from the cable management system.
  9. Simultaneously turn both ejector handles on the left and right of the faceplate counterclockwise to unseat the TXP-F13-3D SIB.
  10. Grasp both ejector handles, pull firmly, and slide the TXP-F13-3D SIB about three-quarters of the way out of the chassis.Caution

    Be prepared to support the weight of the TXP-F13-3D SIB (approximately 21.6 lb (9.8 kg)) before you slide it completely out of the chassis. .

    When the SIB is out of the chassis, do not hold it by its ejector handles or edge connectors. They cannot support its weight.

  11. Place one hand underneath the TXP-F13-3D SIB to support it and slide it completely out of the chassis. Place it on the antistatic mat.Caution

    Do not stack hardware components on one another after you remove them. Place each component on an antistatic mat resting on a stable, flat surface.

  12. If you are not reinstalling a TXP-F13-3D SIB into the emptied TXP-F13-3D SIB slot within a short time, install a blank TXP-F13-3D SIB panel over the slot to maintain proper airflow in the TXP-F13-3D SIB card cage.

Installing a TXP-F13-3D SIB

To install a TXP-F13-3D SIB into the rear of the chassis (see figure ):

Caution

Be prepared to support the weight of the TXP-F13-3D SIB (approximately 21.6 lb (9.8 kg)) before you lift it.

  1. Have ready a replacement TXP-F13-3D SIB.
  2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  3. Locate the F13 slot in which you plan to install the TXP-F13-3D SIB.
  4. Place one hand under the bottom edge of the TXP-F13-3D SIB and one hand around the top of the TXP-F13-3D SIB faceplate.Caution

    When the TXP-F13-3D SIB is out of the chassis, do not hold it by its ejector handles or edge connectors. They cannot support its weight.

  5. Lift the TXP-F13-3D SIB into place and carefully align the left and right edges with the guides inside the card cage.
  6. Carefully slide the TXP-F13-3D SIB all the way into the card cage until you feel resistance.
  7. Simultaneously turn both left and right ejector handles clockwise to seat the TXP-F13-3D SIB.
  8. Remove the dust covers from the transceivers and cables. Store the dust covers in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.
  9. Connect the switching plane cable and transceivers:

    • CXP cables and transceivers–Insert the CXP transceivers into the TXP-F13-3D ports. The CXP transceivers and the port are keyed to ensure proper mating. Then, connect each CXP cable to the CXP transceiver in the TXP-F13-3D port. Align the cable with the port and carefully press it into the port until it your hear a click and it stops. The CXP cables and CXP transceivers are keyed to ensure proper mating.

    • AOC with embedded transceivers—Insert each AOC transceiver to its corresponding TXP-F13-3D port. Align the transceiver with the port and carefully press it into the port until it your hear a click and it stops. The AOC transceivers and the port are keyed to ensure proper mating.

  10. Use one of the following methods to bring the TXP-F13-3D SIB online:
    • Press and hold the SIB button on the left side of the TXP-F13-3D SIB faceplate. The green OK LED should light steadily a few minutes after the TXP-F13-3D SIB is installed.

    • Issue the following CLI command:

      user@host> request chassis sib f13 slot slot-number online
  11. Verify that the TXP-F13-3D SIB is functioning normally:

    • Verify that the green OK LED is lit steadily.

    • Verify that the TXP-F13-3D SIB is online by issuing the show chassis sibs command.
