Replacing a TX Matrix Plus Active Optic Cable with Embedded Transceivers

 

Two transceivers are embedded into each active optical cable (AOC).

Note

You must use the same cable length for every switching plane cable from a particular line-card chassis to the TX Matrix Plus router. However, you do not need to use the same length for all switching plane cables within a routing matrix.

Removing a TX Matrix Plus Active Optic Cable with Embedded Transceivers

To remove an AOC with embedded transceivers:

  1. Disable the TXP-F13-3D SIB port by issuing the request chassis sib optics sfc command. For example:
    request chassis sib optics sfc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 disable
  2. Disable the TXP-LCC-3D SIB port by issuing the request chassis sib optics lcc command. For example:
    request chassis sib optics lcc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 disable
  3. Have ready an antistatic mat for the AOC with embedded transceivers.
  4. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the TX Matrix Plus chassis.
  5. Pull the tab on the AOC transceiver (Figure 1) to remove the transceiver from the TXP-F13-3D SIB port. Place a dust cover on the AOC transceiver.
  6. Remove the cable from the TX Matrix Plus rear cable management system.
  7. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the line-card chassis.
  8. Pull the tab on the AOC transceiver to remove the transceiver from the TXP-LCC-3D SIB port.
  9. Place a dust cover on the AOC transceiver.
  10. Remove the cable from the LCC rear cable management system.

Installing an AOC Transceiver

To install an AOC with embedded transceivers:

  1. Have ready a replacement AOC with embedded transceivers. Label both ends of the cable.
  2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  3. Remove the dust cover from one AOC transceiver. Store the dust cover in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.Caution

    Keep the dust cover on the AOC transceiver on the end of the cable to be routed to the LCC.

  4. Insert the AOC transceiver into the TXP-F13-3D port in the TX Matrix Plus router (see Figure 2). Align the transceiver with the port, and carefully press it into the port until it your hear a click and the transceiver stops. The AOC transceiver and the port are keyed to ensure proper mating.
  5. Pull the latch for the cable management clamp on the TX Matrix Plus rear cable management system (Figure 3) toward you to release it.
  6. Place the cable upward into the TX Matrix Plus cable management system, and route the cable upward toward the comb assembly on top of the chassis (Figure 4). Caution

    You must maintain a minimum bend radius of 4 in. (10.2 cm) short term, and 3 in. (7.6 cm) long term.

  7. Route the cable between the TX Matrix Plus router and the line-card chassis (LCC).
  8. Remove the dust cover from the AOC transceiver to be connected to the TXP-LCC-3D port in the LCC. Store the dust covers in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.
  9. Insert the AOC transceiver into the TXP-LCC-3D port.
  10. Arrange the cable in the LCC rear cable management system. Ensure that the cable does not interfere with system airflow and maintenance access.

  11. Verify that the AOC transceivers are installed correctly and that the SIBs and cable are functioning normally.
    • If both the LINK and RxPWR LEDs next to the TXP-F13-3D SIB and TXP-LCC-3D SIB ports do not steadily light green, use the CLI to determine the status of the TXP-F13-3D SIB.

    • Verify that the TXP-F13-3D SIBs and TXP-LCC-3D SIBs are online by issuing the show chassis sibs command:

  12. The link between the TXP-F13-3D SIBs and TXP-LCC-3D SIBs should be brought online automatically after the AOC is connected. If the AOC has been repeatedly connected and disconnected or the link is not established after you connect the AOCs to the SIB ports, you can enable the link using the following commands.

    • Enable the TXP-F13-3D SIB port by issuing the request chassis sib optics sfc command. For example:

      request chassis sib optics sfc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 enable
    • Enable the TXP-LCC-3D SIB port by issuing the request chassis sib optics lcc command. For example:

      request chassis sib optics lcc 0 sib-slot 0 optics-slot 0 enable
