Replacing Offline SIBs During an Operational Upgrade to a TX Matrix Plus Routing Matrix with 3D SIBs

 

While performing an operational upgrade to a TX Matrix Plus routing matrix with 3D SIBs you must remove the existing TXP-F2S, TXP-F13, and TXP-T1600 SIBs, and replace them with TXP-F2S-3D, TXP-F13-3D, and TXP-LCC-3D SIBs. The TXP-F2S and TXP-F13 SIBs are located in the SFC, and the TXP-1600 SIBs are located in each LCC.

Before you begin, ensure that you have brought the switch fabric plane offline by using the procedures described in Upgrading an Operational TX Matrix Plus Routing Matrix to 3D SIBs and also ensure that you have removed the existing fiber-optic array cables connected to TXP-F13 and TXP-T1600 SIBs using the procedures described in Removing Fiber-Optic Array Cables During an Operational Upgrade to a TX Matrix Plus Routing Matrix with 3D SIBs.

Ensure that you have an antistatic mat or an antistatic bag for each component you are removing.

To replace the offline SIBs, perform each of the following procedures:

Replacing a TXP-F2S SIB with a TXP-F2S-3D SIB

The TXP-F2S SIBs are located in the front of the SFC in slots 0/0 through 4/6. Each TXP-F2S SIB weighs approximately 3.4 lb (1.5 kg). Each TXP-F2S-3D SIB weighs approximately 3.63 lb (1.65 kg).

To replace a TXP-F2S SIB with a TXP-F2S-3D SIB (see Figure 1 and Figure 2):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Verify that the SIB is offline. The LEDs on the SIB faceplate should be unlit.
  3. Release the latch on the ejector handle of the TXP-F2S SIB faceplate.
  4. Flip the ejector handle outward to unseat the TXP-F2S SIB.
  5. Grasp the ejector handle, pull firmly, and slide the TXP-F2S SIB about halfway out of the chassis.
  6. Place one hand underneath the TXP-F2S SIB to support it, and slide it completely out of the chassis. Place it on the antistatic mat or in the antistatic bag.Caution

    Do not stack hardware components on one another after you remove them. Place each component on an antistatic mat resting on a stable, flat surface.

  7. Lift the TXP-F2S-3D SIB into place and carefully align first the bottom, then the top of the TXP-F2S-3D SIB with the guides inside the card cage.
  8. Carefully slide the TXP-F2S-3D SIB all the way into the card cage until you feel resistance.
  9. Grasp the ejector handle and rotate it inward to seat the TXP-F2S-3D SIB until the ejectors latch into the faceplate.
  10. Tighten the captive screw next to the ejector handle.

  11. Repeat this procedure for the other three offline TXP-F2S SIBs.

Replacing a TXP-F13 SIB with a TXP-F13-3D SIB

The TXP-F13 SIBs are located in the rear of the SFC in slots 0 through 15. Each TXP-F13 SIB weighs approximately 17.0 lb (7.7 kg). Each TXP-F13-3D SIB weighs approximately 21.6 lb (9.8 kg).

Before you begin, determine which SIBs you need to install to fully interconnect your TX Matrix Plus routing matrix with 3D SIBs. As part of this operational upgrade, you will only require TXP-F13-3D SIBs in slots 0, 3, 6, 8, and 11. If you plan to later add more than four T1600 LCCs, or convert T1600 LCCs into T4000 LCCs, additional SIBs are required and can be installed at this time. To replace a TXP-F13 SIB with a TXP-F13-3D SIB (see Figure 3 and Figure 4):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Verify that the SIB is offline. The LEDs on the SIB faceplate should be unlit.
  3. Ensure that you have removed the fiber-optic array cables, as described in Removing Fiber-Optic Array Cables During an Operational Upgrade to a TX Matrix Plus Routing Matrix with 3D SIBs.
  4. Simultaneously turn both ejector handles on the left and right of the faceplate counterclockwise to unseat the TXP-F13 SIB.
  5. Grasp both ejector handles, pull firmly, and slide the TXP-F13 SIB about three-quarters of the way out of the chassis.Caution

    Be prepared to support the weight of the TXP-F13 SIB (approximately 17.0 lb (7.7 kg) before you slide it completely out of the chassis.

    When the TXP-F13-SIB is out of the chassis, do not hold it by its ejector handles or edge connectors. They cannot support its weight.

  6. Place one hand underneath the TXP-F13 SIB to support it, and slide it completely out of the chassis. Place it on the antistatic mat or in the antistatic bag.Caution

    Do not stack hardware components on one another after you remove them. Place each component on an antistatic mat resting on a stable, flat surface.

  7. Lift the TXP-F13-3D SIB into place, and carefully align the left and right edges with the guides inside the card cage.Caution

    Be prepared to support the weight of the TXP-F13-3D SIB (approximately 21.6 lb (9.8 kg)) before you lift it.

  8. Carefully slide the TXP-F13-3D SIB all the way into the card cage until you feel resistance.
  9. Simultaneously turn both left and right ejector handles clockwise to seat the TXP-F13-3D SIB.

  10. Repeat this procedure for the other offline TXP-F13-3D SIB.

Replacing a TXP-T1600 SIB with a TXP-LCC-3D SIB

The TXP-T1600 SIBs are located in the rear of the LCC in slots SIB0 through SIB4. Each TXP-T1600 SIB weighs approximately 10.2 lb (4.6 kg). Each TXP-3D-LCC SIB weighs approximately 9.4 lb (4.2 kg).

To replace a TXP-T1600 SIB with a TXP-LCC-3D SIB (see Figure 5 and Figure 6):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Verify that the SIB is offline. The LEDs on the SIB faceplate should be unlit.
  3. Ensure that you have removed the fiber-optic array cables, as described in Removing Fiber-Optic Array Cables During an Operational Upgrade to a TX Matrix Plus Routing Matrix with 3D SIBs.
  4. Loosen the captive screws (using a number 2 Phillips [+] screwdriver if necessary) on the ejector handles on each side of the TXP-T1600 SIB faceplate.
  5. Flip the ejector handles outward to unseat the TXP-T1600 SIB.
  6. Grasp both ejector handles, pull firmly, and slide the TXP-T1600 SIB about three-quarters of the way out of the chassis.
  7. Place one hand underneath the TXP-T1600 SIB to support it, and slide it completely out of the chassis. Place it on the antistatic mat or in the antistatic bag.Caution

    Do not stack hardware components on one another after you remove them. Place each component on an antistatic mat resting on a stable, flat surface.

  8. Lift the TXP-LCC-3D SIB into place, and carefully align the left and right edges with the guides inside the card cage.
  9. Slide the TXP-LCC-3D SIB into the chassis, carefully ensuring that it is correctly aligned.
  10. Grasp both ejector handles, and press them inward to seat the TXP-LCC-3D SIB in the chassis. Ensure that the ejector handle tabs are properly mated inside their corresponding chassis slots. You might have to close and open the handles more than once before the tabs catch the slots.
  11. Tighten the captive screws on the ejector handles.

  12. Repeat this procedure for other offline TXP-1600 SIBs in the remaining LCCs in your TX Matrix Plus routing matrix.
