Connecting Switching Plane Cables to the TXP-F13-3D SIBs

 

Each TXP-F13-3D SIB has 16 ports labeled 0 through 15. Two types of switching plane cables are available for TXP-F13-3D SIB ports

  • Active optic cable (AOC) which is embedded into an AOC transceiver. The AOC transceiver inserts directly into the TXP-F13-3D SIB port.

  • CXP cable, which requires that a CXP transceiver be inserted in the TXP-F13-3D SIB port before the CXP cable is connected to the CXP transceiver.

Connecting Active Optic Cable (AOC) Transceivers to the TXP-F13-3D SIBs

To connect the AOC to the TXP-F13-3D SIB:

  1. Gather the needed tools and part.
    • Dust-free resealable plastic bags for temporary storage of switching plane cable dust covers

    • Blank labels in the accessory box for switching plane cables

    • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding wrist strap

  2. Make sure that both ends of the cable are labeled.
  3. Disable the TXP-F13-3D SIB by pressing the SIB button.
  4. Using the labels you created for the switching plane cables, identify which cables will be connected to each TXP-F13-3D SIB. See Labeling the TX Matrix Plus Switching Plane Cables.
  5. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  6. Ensure that the TXP-F13-3D SIB port corresponds to the label you attached to the end of the cable.
  7. Remove the dust cover from the AOC transceiver (see Figure 1) that you plan to connect to the TXP-F13-3D SIB port. Store the dust cover in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.

  8. Insert the AOC transceiver into the TXP-F13-3D SIB port (Figure 2). Align the transceiver with the corresponding TXP-F13-3D SIB port, and carefully press the transceiver into the port until a click is heard and it stops. The transceiver and port are keyed to ensure proper mating.
  9. Verify that a dust cover is placed securely on the AOC transceiver to be connected to the TXP-LCC-3D before routing the switching plane cables to the LCCs.
  10. Pull the latch for the cable management clamp toward you to release it. Place the switching plane cable upward into the cable management system. Route the cable upward toward the comb assembly on top of the chassis, and press it into the divider.

    Caution

    You must maintain a minimum bend radius of 4 in. (10.2 cm) short term, and 3 in. (7.6 cm) long term.

  11. Arrange the switching plane cables so that they do not interfere with system airflow and maintenance access.

  12. Repeat the procedure for the remaining switching plane cables that connect to the TXP-F13-3D SIB.
  13. Enable the TXP-F13-3D SIB by pressing the SIB button.
  14. Verify that the green OK LED is lit steadily on the TXP-F13-3D SIB.
  15. Route the other end of the switching plane cables to the LCCs, but do not connect the cables to the LCCs until instructed to do so.

Connecting the CXP Cables to the TXP-F13-3D SIBs

Each TXP-F13-3D SIB has 16 ports labeled 0 through 15.

The following procedure assumes that you have labeled both ends of each switching plane cable that you plan to use.

Note

Do not connect the switching plane cables to the line-card chassis (LCC) at this time.

To connect the CXP cables to the TXP-F13-3D SIBs:

  1. Gather the needed tools and part.
    • Dust-free resealable plastic bags for temporary storage of switching plane cable dust covers

    • Blank labels in the accessory box for switching plane cables

    • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding wrist strap

  2. Disable the TXP-F13-3D SIB by pressing the SIB button.
  3. Using the labels you created for the switching plane cables, identify which cable will be connected to each TXP-F13-3D SIB port. See Labeling the TX Matrix Plus Switching Plane Cables.
  4. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  5. Ensure that the TXP-F13-3D SIB port corresponds to the label you attached to the end of the cable.
  6. Remove the dust covers from the CXP transceivers (see Figure 3). Store the dust covers in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.

  7. Insert CXP transceivers into each TXP-F13-3D SIB port to which you plan to connect a CXP cable (Figure 5).
  8. Remove the dust covers from the CXP switching plane cable. Store the dust cover in a dust-free resealable plastic bag.

  9. Insert the CXP switching plane cable into the CXP transceiver (Figure 6). Align the cable connector with the corresponding TXP-F13-3D SIB port, and carefully press the cable into the transceiver until a click is heard and it stops. The cable and port are keyed to ensure proper mating.
  10. Pull the latch for the cable management clamp toward you to release it. Place the switching plane cable upward into the cable management system. Route the cable upward toward the comb assembly on top of the chassis, and press it into the divider.
