Installing the Spare EMI Door on an MX10008

 

The line cards in an MX10008 chassis require an electromagnetic interference (EMI) door to reduce the risk of radio frequency interference that affects an electrical circuit due to EMI emitted from an external source. The EMI door is designed to reduce the electromagnetic interference to comply with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements. Before installing the EMI door, you must install one cable seal on the left and two cable seals on the right side of the chassis.

Before you begin, ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:

  • Phillips (+) screwdriver, number 2

  • Right base bracket (provided)

  • Left base bracket (provided)

  • Two interchangeable latch brackets (provided)

  • Phillips flat head mounting screws (provided)

  • Three cable seals - Two on the right and one on the left (provided)

To install the cable seals on the left and right side of the chassis and then install the EMI door on the chassis, perform the following steps:

This procedure assumes the MX10008 router chassis is already mounted on a 4-post rack.

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to the approved ESD site grounding point.

  2. Remove the plastic bag that is taped to the front panel, which holds the brackets and screws.
  3. Use the Phillips screwdriver to attach two mounting screws to the left base bracket at the bottom left of the chassis frame. The base brackets are larger than the latch brackets.Note

    The right and left base bracket cannot be interchanged.

  4. Use the Phillips screwdriver to attach two mounting screws to the right base bracket at the bottom right side of the chassis frame.
  5. Use the Phillips screwdriver to attach two mounting screws to the latch bracket at the top left of the chassis frame.
  6. Use the final two mounting screws to attach a latch bracket to the top right of the chassis frame so there are brackets on all four corners of the front of the chassis.
  7. Loosen the screws on the front-mounting flanges of the chassis.
  8. Align the left cable seal with the chassis front-mounting flanges on the outside of the card cage.
  9. Adjust the holes in the cable seals to align with the five captive screws in the front-mounting flanges and an additional 1 RU free space below the rack if you use the optional power cable tray. Tighten the captive screws to secure the cable seal in place.
  10. Align the right cable seal with the chassis front-mounting flanges on the outside of the card cage.
  11. Adjust the holes in the cable seals to align with the five captive screws in the front-mounting flanges and an additional 1 RU free space below the rack if you use the optional power cable tray. Tighten the captive screws to secure the cable seal in place.
  12. Align the smaller cable seal on the top right of the front panel and tighten the screws to secure the cable seal.

  13. Install the cable trays on all the installed line cards in the chassis.

    Handle Extensions

    1. Use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws on the two line card handles.
    2. Open the clips on the ends of the cable tray and place the cable tray across the front of the line card so that the two ends of the cable tray are under the handle extensions.
    3. Drape and tie the optical cables to the side. Drape the remaining cables under and over the handle extensions.
  14. Use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws on the two line card handles.
  15. Tighten the screws into the handle extensions.
  16. Snap to close the blue clips of the cable tray around the handle extensions.
  17. Lift the EMI door and align it to the bottom of the chassis. Slide the door back on the bracket glides until it engages on the two ramps.
  18. Tilt the door toward the chassis until it is vertically aligned with the chassis. The release buttons on the side of the door click into place.
