    Removing a PTX3000 IPLC Cable

    Removing and installing the IPLC cable (fiber-optic cables with LC connectors) do not affect packet transport router function, except that an IPLC does not receive or transmit data from that port while its cable is disconnected. To remove a cable from the IPLC:

    1. Have ready a rubber safety cap for each cable.
    2. Unplug the cable from the port. Immediately cover the end of each cable with a rubber safety cap.

      Warning: Do not look directly into a fiber-optic transceiver or into the ends of fiber-optic cables. Fiber-optic transceivers and fiber-optic cable connected to a transceiver emit laser light that can damage your eyes.

      Caution: Do not leave a fiber-optic connector uncovered except when inserting or removing cable. The safety cap keeps the port clean and prevents accidental exposure to laser light.

    3. Using a number 1 Phillips (+) screwdriver, loosen the two inner captive screws on the upper or lower cable management system.
    4. Move the cover to access the cable management system.
      • For an IPLC cable in the upper card cage, lift the upper cable management system cover up (Figure 1).
      • For an IPLC cable in the lower card cage, lower the lower cable management system cover (Figure 2).
    5. Remove the cable from the cable management system.
    6. Detach the cable from the destination port.

    Installing an IPLC Cable

    To install an IPLC (fiber-optic cables with LC connectors) cable:

    1. Have ready a length of the type of cable used by the IPLC.
    2. Remove the rubber safety plug from the IPLC port.

      Warning: Do not look directly into a fiber-optic transceiver or into the ends of fiber-optic cables. Fiber-optic transceivers and fiber-optic cable connected to a transceiver emit laser light that can damage your eyes.

      Caution: Do not leave a fiber-optic connector uncovered except when inserting or removing cable. The safety cap keeps the port clean and prevents accidental exposure to laser light.

    3. Insert the cable into the connector port on the IPLC faceplate. See Figure 3.
    4. Arrange the cable in the cable management system to prevent it from dislodging or developing stress points. Secure the cable so that it is not supporting its own weight as it hangs to the floor.

      Caution: Avoid bending fiber-optic cable beyond its minimum bend radius. An arc smaller than a few inches in diameter can damage the cable and cause problems that are difficult to diagnose.

      Caution: Do not let fiber-optic cable hang free from the connector. Do not allow fastened loops of cable to dangle, which stresses the cable at the fastening point.

    5. Insert the other end of the cable into the destination port.

      Note: The destination port can be a PIC/MIC port in the same PTX3000 chassis or remote chassis, or it could be to the remote optical ILA or to a remote PTX3000 routers

    6. Repeat the previous steps for any additional cables.
    7. Move the cover over the cable management system.
      • For an IPLC in the upper card cage, lower the cover down over the upper cable management system (Figure 1).
      • For an IPLC in the lower card cage, lift the cover up over the lower cable management system (Figure 2).
    8. Using a number 1 Phillips (+) screwdriver, tighten the two inner captive screws to secure the cover to the cable management system.
    9. If the IPLC is offline (the STATUS LED is not lit steadily green), use one of the following methods to bring the IPLC online:
      • Press the IPLC ON/OFF button until the STATUS LED on the IPLC faceplate is lit steadily green.
      • Issue the following CLI command:
        user@host> request chassis fpc-slot fpc-slot online

        Note: For fpc-slot, specify the FPC or PIC slot in which the IPLC is installed. For example, specify fpc-slot 0. For more information, see PTX3000 IPLC Description.

    10. Verify that the IPLC is functioning normally by issuing the following command.
      user@host> show chassis fpc optical-properties status fpc-slot fpc-slot
