Replacing the M40e Air Filter
The air filter is located at the front of the chassis, below the FPC card cage and cable management system (see Removing the M40e Air Filter).
To replace the air filter:
Removing the M40e Air Filter
To remove the air filter:
- Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis. For more information about ESD, see Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage to an M Series, MX Series, or T Series Router.
- Loosen the thumbscrew at each corner of the air filter cover.
- Grasp the edges of the air filter and pull it away from the front of the chassis.
- Inspect the filter for dust, dirt, and holes. If needed, replace it.

Installing the M40e Air Filter
To install the air filter (see Figure 2):
- Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis. For more information about ESD, see Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage to an M Series, MX Series, or T Series Router.
- Grasp the sides of the air filter and push it firmly into place over the air intake vent.
- Tighten the thumbscrew at each corner of the air filter cover.
